Is the Barnes story supposed to be about George Bush not going to Viet Nam? Wasn't George HW Bush the director of the CIA back then, making GWBush inelegible to go into a hostile environment for national security reasons? Why aren't we hearing about this aspect?

I don't think his father was director of the CIA at that time.  I think he was an ambassador.

NO.
GHWB was only a representative back then (Nixon made him an Ambassador to the UN in '71).
AMAZING how much power and influence the Liberals ascribe to him, a lowly congressman.

After researching, GHWB was the US Ambassader to the UN while W was a pilot. He still wouldn't likely have been allowed in the combat area.

GHWB:  Congress 67-71.  Ambassador to UN 71-72.

GWB: Joined the TANG in 1968 (while his dad was a powerful freshman Congressman)
