At some point I’ll buy the 300mm, 500mm, and 600mm PF lenses.

The 300mm PF is ridiculously small with a $2000+ price.  And it’s an f4.

I have the 300PF f/4, and while I'm not crazy about the f/4 aperture, it is still a nice lens. I'm sure the new 400/500/600 (or whatever) will be too.  But part of the magic of long lenses is having the ability to blur out the background, thus making your subject stand out more.  And while f/5.6 might work fine for shooting airplanes or birds against an empty sky, I have to question it's usefulness for something like sports.  I know of sports shooters who refuse to use anything slower than a f/2.8 lens, simply because of the ability to eliminate cluttered backgrounds.

Honestly, I'd be hard pressed to buy any f/5.6 lens.  I also wonder about the price tag.  Still, I have no doubt that they will sell like hotcakes, as soon as they hit the market.

We'll see.

Nikon Rumors is saying $4300. I'm sure it will draw a group that wants a 500mm prime but doesn't want to pay the price or deal with the size of a 500 f4.

For that price it is going to have to be significantly better than the 180-500mm, which is an excellent lens.

Epic. I like my silly 200-500...but want something nuclear around 200.
 Next week I am ordering a Nikon 200 F2...because resolution/speed.
I will use it mostly for shooting my girls and for close birds. I will need a new pelican
case for sure since I will dedicate a D500 body to it. It is the opposite of the PF
philosophy...freaking heavy. I don't like the halos in highlights or specular point sources
the PF lenses make but considering the weight savings they will enable shots taken
deep into wilderness impossible with the really heavy stuff. Having to helicopter in
is pricey!!!
