Who has one? Looking for my "mid life crisis" car and don't want a fancy sports car.  Can I get my "need for youthful speed" out of this on my commute to work?

Definitely.

High performance in an inexpensive package.

I had an 1835 when I was a kid.  That or larger and you'll have a blast.

I always wanted one when i was a teen. Anyways id rather have a slow can i can drive to the limit than a fast car i have to drive slow. Not saying a tricked bug wont go and put a smile on your face but compared to most mid life crisis cars it would be considered slow.
Go for it. FYI i would rather buy a cheap one and build or have built the car corretly to know its done right than buy someone elses project that probably isnt done right which could/would be dangerous.

A Baja Bug is one of the few vehicles I would willingly sell a testicle for.  Possibly both.  Hell, if its in good enough shape, might sell all three!

In the 70s I saw one with a 283 V8 hanging out the back of a VW in Tucson.
That thing took off like a rocket.

No need to reinvent the wheel right?
"Hurrdurr Miatas r gay" rehashers probably lack the intellect to do so anyway.

My daughter wanted a Baja. This is her 72.
I have a 67 (non Baja) I'm in the middle of doing a complete restore.

Fun little vehicles. I've had 1500cc, 1600, 1835, and 1914 engines.
1835 is a great motor, the 1914 was a beast, both have thin cylinder walls though.
If you want decent power and longevity build you a 1776.

Here's the 67.

And the 1914cc beast.

My buddy had one back in high school back in the eighties.  It was a fun ride.
