Got a call for burglars in action at a residence about 0230. I know the house is vacant. I was close so rolled up blacked out and approached. Bad guys look out the window and bolt for the rear of the house. I do my low speed high drag run (hey, I'm getting old) around the house and find one bad guy in full flight towards the rear fence.
I whisper kind words of surrender at him and he runs faster, just about went through the fence. Drops a .45 on the way over.
My shift mates are waiting for him, several fences later he is taking the TASER ride and is caught.
I see bad guy #2 in the house, make entry and convince him to lay down like a good boy.
We find an SKS rifle in the house.
My bad guy talks later and admits that they were planning a home invasion and were going to use the empty house as a base.
These guys are probably going to be good for several robberies in the area.
Cops 2 Bad guys 0
No one got shot although BG #1 came real close.
I was a bit shook about the rifle after the fact.
All in all a good night's police work for my shift.
Whew, time for a beer.
