| So I have my Border Patrol interview coming up. I was told this is tough and to be prepared…But I have no way to prepare and don’t know what they ask. (I think they may ask situational questions). To anyone who has been through this…What do they ask? What is it like? Thanks for any responses. |

Well I don't really want to get into specifics since I had to sign some thing swearing I wouldn't but yes they are situational questions.
You will be sat in a room infront of 3 agents each will ask you a question. When you answer...doesn't matter what you say they WILL question you and try and make you second guess yourself. It wasn't too big of a deal one of my agents was kind of a dick, but I stuck with my guns, even kind of copped an attitude with the guy because I WAS not going to change my answer. Whatever you do be a man, don't be like "o yeah that would be a good Idea, i would do that". If you realize you fucked up just roll with it. Good luck, this is one of the easiest parts of the process. BTW I PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS. |

Quoted: I recommend you not do this during your interview. You can be confident without being adversarial. It wasn't too big of a deal one of my agents was kind of a dick, but I stuck with my guns, even kind of copped an attitude with the guy because I WAS not going to change my answer. You would be correct in that its all situational awareness. You'll be given a scenario and then asked, "what would you do?" Even though the transition to DHS had begun, I went through mine in 2003 when everything around you was DOJ and INS. At the time, the structured interview for both Patrol Agent and Immigration Inspector (now CBP Officer) were very similar. |

| You will probably be given 3 or 4 situational scenerios. They will tell you to go step by step what you would do. Normally when you give the answer that best fits what you're doing, they will stop you and throw in a twist. Basically they want to see how you adjust to changes and if you can think on your feet. Not to many people fail, however some do. Mainly because they say they would take on 8 guys that have AK47's and they are only armed with thier sidearm. If you have never had any LEO experience they take that into consideration. Also when you're giving your answers, don't limit yourself to just border patrol resources, don't forget there are other agencies, DPS, county, local PD's that you could mention to help you out. Hope this helps. |
