So I downloaded the Battlefield 2 Demo tonight. I try to run it. I double click on the desktop shortcut, the screen goes black, flickers back and forth between a light black and a dark black. Then it just puts me right back at my desktop and nothing else happens. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I fix it? Thanks guys. -Mike.

Need hardware stats.

Game is rather heavy on system resources, and you need a pretty decent rig to run it, and the game only supports certain vid cards.

It's a Dell 8100. I know, it's ancient. I did put a new video card in it though. I THINK it was a Radion 9000 or 92000. Man, I'm a complete brainfarter when it comes to computers. I think I might need more RAM. I know I have 128MB right now.

Happens with all games from time to time, it's probably a video driver issue or some other driver like DirectX or something.  Just reinstall or upgrade all your drivers

128MB ram? I think the Min is 256 and that'll take hours to load up.

Is BF2 anywhere near as shitty as BF1942 was?  That game was so poorly done it blew my mind, is the new one worth looking into?  I haven't played games in probably a year, but I did love the BF1942 gameplay, the engine was just TERRIBLE.

BF1942 barely ran on anything top of the line when it came out.  That engine was just crap.  I would assume you'd need at least 2GHz and 256MB of RAM with a decent video car to pull off the new version.

At least I'm on topic while hi-jacking your thread.

Well, I downloaded the demo and played the singleplayer map with 16 bots. Ran pretty smoothly surprisingly enough. Everything that could possibly be turn down was cranked down to low but it still looked mighty purty to me.

I can only imagine what it would look like on a bitchin' rig with maxed out settings

I am pretty sure I killed JohnWayne-777 on that server. Either that someone has his exact same handle as here.
