Well I start back on nights tonight... finally.  We rotate every 90 days or so.  Day shift works out good for "family" but the type of calls sure suck.  All you seem to get are the "my neighbors cat was in my yard" type calls.  I will also be glad because we usually don't get the "Social Services" type calls either.

I think I'm getting a new partner tonight as well.  Now I can finally get back to some "real work".

Why PD's still mandate rotating shifts is beyond me.  And every few months?  People who started under a system like that don't seem to mind because its all they know, but, jeez, how can you keep any kind of schedule like that??  We "bid" based on seniority every six months.  4/10's.  We seem to like it.

It seems like your sleep cycle wouldn't be very good...  its really not healthy.

Of course this comes from the part timer that will work all three shifts and back in the same week  (1st shift is my least favorite though, I'll give you that)

If it werent for my family, I would go back to midnights, I hate the BS of days too. We stopped rotating a few years ago and Im glad I would have had to quit if we still did, due to family, you cant get adjusted w/ that type of schedule, but hell one of the state agencies here in AR rotates every WEEK.

I was reading some threads on PoliceOne and I remember one or two of them rotated all three within a week... worked 3 days of first, day off, 3 days of second, day off, 2 days of midnights and like 3 or 4 days off... Thats not exactly what it was but it was similar.

Yeah, I hated it when I had to take days to take a promotion. Took a little over a year to get back on nights. The only way I'd go back to days would be in the event I had to do it to take the next promotion. I hate days in LE.

Fwiw, we work a 5 day week and a 2 day week... Work mon-tues-fri-sat-sun, then we only work wed-thurs the next week. All 12 hour shifts and never rotate day/night. The days off are awesome with this schedule.

I wish I had 90 days.

I will work nights and days in the same week pretty often.  Our schedule has no rythm or reason whatsoever......
