I had a check engine light on. I fixed the problem drove it for about 200 mile and the light went off. So are the codes erased from the computer memory now? I have to get it inspected next month and I'm wondering if the codes will show up even if the light went off.

It's stored. It's most likely be the "evap" code. Someone didn't tighten the gas cap down tight enough.

GM right?

I did the same thing and I was told that after a certain number of on/off cycles, it resets itself and its business as usual.

To get rid of the historical codes, unplug the battery for about 30s.  Then drive around a bit to re-run all the OBD monitors.

No Nissan Sentra. The Evap Canister Purge Valve was stuck. I couldn't fill the gas tank, the pump kept shutting off due to pressure in the gas tank. I took it out, lubed it a bit and put it back in. Light went off after driving about 200 miles. Is been another 150 still no light. If the code is still in the computer it will fail inspection or so I'm told.

Go to Autozone and have them delete the code. Takes about 2 minutes.

If it's OBDII, while it will "drop the light", the history of the code remains in the computer until deleted.

The same drive cycles that turn on the light, will turn it off again, too. If you clear the codes manually, you'll have readiness monitors that aren't ready, and you'll fail emissions. Out here in AZ, you're allowed to have one monitor not set, but the rest must be good to go.
