Ok, so I got a used Lum Tec off the EE and when I received it the second hand sweep was very inconsistent and it was losing 2-3 min in a 10 hour shift. I had it for two days and contacted Lum Tec and they said mail it in.  They had it for a week and the tech said for the life of him he couldn't figure out what was wrong with it so the great company they are put a brand new movement in and got it back to me.  I received it yesterday and was quite excited.  Until last night at work I was wearing it and the second sweep was again inconsistent and the watch would randomly stop.  I had to adjust the time twice. Just now I noticed it was suddenly 10 min behind.  This is my first automatic watch and I love the look of it (combat B13) but what the heck is going on?  Is it something I could be doing?  It's a brand new movement for cryin out loud. They even kept it an extra day and tweaked the timing on it.

Suggestions?

it may be your magnetic personality.

that's got a Seiko-sourced NH15 movement which has a history of timing issues and second hand skipping. Send it back and have them try again.

OP,

The movement could have become magnetized. Magnetism wreaks havoc on automatic and manual wound watches.

Many jewelers/watchmakers have a device that will degauss the movement.  The watch doesn't need to be disassembled and the procedure takes only a minute or two.

Is there anywhere at home or at work where the watch is exposed to a strong, magnetic field?

If the movement was magnetized and they couldn't determine that the first time around, it would sound like they don't know what they're doing at the service center.

a magnetized balance spring will typically make the watch run fast. I'm with the post above, the s/c doesn't know what they're doing. I'm always suspicious of these johnny-come-lately forum driven internet fashion watch companies. I don't know what you paid for it on the EE, but I see it retails for $800+ on the lum-tec site. Not to knock your choice in watches but that's a lot of dough for a watch assembled of Asian sourced components.

When I talked to them they did mention they tried to de magnetize it. I don't think there are any strong magnetic sources around me.
Set it I when I went to bed and just woke up and it appears to be fine.  So perhaps it's something while I'm at work.  Which I will admit is arfcoms most despised profession, you get one guess!
My right hand is always resting next to the VHF radio and tough book.  Possible culprits?

I worked the same profession for years.

I suspect that the electronics in use today are considerably different, and more numerous, than what we had in the Stone Age.
Maybe whomever works on your commo systems can shed some light on EM emissions of your equipment, if any.

I started out wearing an automatic, early 60s era, Zodiac Seawolf.  It lasted through high school, the army and many years crunching crime.  Never a problem until it just plain got beaten to death.
I switched to a VN era Seiko automatic.  Like the Zodiac, it lasted for years until it too was pounded into submission.

Keep us posted OP, I'd like to know what you discover.

So last night I wore it on my left wrist and it performed perfectly. I'm going to switch back to my right wrist tonight to try and replicate the issue. My broth who is a flight medic also has an automatic lum tec and said he never had any issues in the helicopter with all the comm gear and radar. But I'm assuming the aviation grade equipment is shielded like a mofo so may not be a fair comparison.
I will report back in the morning with my findings.
