Anyone with experience?  For some strange reason, I find them interesting.

reminds me of the Martian Chronicles I saw as a kid - they used them. So did Mad Max... basically an early form of helicopter - some are counter rotating blades sort of like egg beaters - or some Russian models - for lift with a pusher propeller in the rear for forward momentum.

They were quite common when I was young back in the 1930's and so were Dirigables like the Hindenberg.  NYC area., You got me remenicing. Most people today dont even know what one is.

I've got two hours dual.  They fly like weight shift aircraft (trikes).

I find them fascinating. Constant auto rotation, the fact that they are obscure, and that flight seems impossible.  A flight in one is on my list.

Finding dual is difficult,.

Finding an examiner is more so.

You will have multiple engine failures.

It is very fun.

Its a compatible rating for other rotary wing licenses.

I need to do it.

My dad owned one back in the early 90's; an Air & Space 18A.
Not his, but a representative example:

Interestingly, it was one of the few certified production types in the US.
It was a fun ride, but s-l-o-o-o-o-w.
Air & Space went under after Don Farrington passed away back in 2000.
No idea who holds the type certificate now.

I flew with Ron over in Searcy, AR, he's also a DPE.  I believe he does some training out west in the winter.
