I seem to recall, somewhere in the fairly recent past of another whale demolition.
The carcass had beached, and the authorities were concerned about the health hazard and more urgently, after several days, the STENCH.
Explosive charges were set to dismember the corpse. Curious onlookers were ushered off to police lines a safe distance away. The charges were detonated.
Someone had miscalculated. Instead of separating the body into manageable pieces, the resulting blast hurled large chunks of rotting whale flesh for hundreds of yards, creating an even worse mess, and only adding to the now-worsening STENCH the unforgettable odor of incinerated whale.
Several onlookers were treated and released after being struck by airborne fragments of bloody, rotting sea beast.
An investigation into the mishap was announced, but no reports have been forthcoming as yet.
Authorities, now augmented by dozens of local volunteers set to the task of cleaning up the now scattered whale fragments.
