Can you try adding some paragraph breaks to that blob of text???

monumentally shitty idea

While I wouldn't mind a repeal of the 86 MG ban the rest of the idea is well shit. Thats a crazy idea just out and out crazy, there are enough hoops to jump through to get an MG or a supressor, oh and what happens when you get into an area where you can't get the CLEO signoff? Than yer fucked. Remember not all states are C3 friendly. No to much shit to jump through and to much asking for .govs blessing to exercise a constitutional right. I'd rather fight this ban extention and fight the next one they try to get through.

Yep, I'm all for the repeal of the 86 MG ban.  However, I think it would be a terrible mistake to suggest making what are now legal semi autos in slightly neutered form Class 3 weapons.  Maybe we do need to go on the offensive though and try to get our congressmen and senators to start pushing a 86 MGban repeal.  Ahuh, like that's going to happen..[wave]

I had paragraphs in my post, somehow they got lost when it was submitted. Maybe a shitty idea, but make no mistake, there WILL be another ban.

Actually, the Antis have a tendancy to drift around looking for holes...

If they loose long enough, they will find a new 'wedge issue' to push...

Originally, it was handguns

That failed, so they moved to 'assault weapons'

That's failing now, and so they are trying to decide between 'sniper weapons' and banning private sales of firearms.

If we hold them off long enough, they'll move on to a new line, one that they think is easier to sell...

It's all about incrementalisim, and inching your position forward by getting people 'used to' the  assumption that you are right.

Their tool for this, in recent history, has been the AWB.

Ours has been CCW (get people used to guns as 'tools', not 'evil scary things')... Note that the spread of carry laws has been directly followed by a reversal of the trend toward an anti-gun America. It's not all the way reversed, but we have more of a voice now then we did back before 90% of the states had carry laws.

I have a better idea jrc316 ... how about we stop fucking caving in and compromising to these assholes?

Yeah, no more compromising. PERIOD

Monumentally moronic idea, which could only be dreamed up by a Feinswine lacky.  What possible purpose would that serve this nation?  It would register owners of AR15's and diminish our currently held rights.  I want to write more, but I think the proposition itself stands as its own defeat.  Justifying it with a detailed response would mean I'd actually have to think about this horrible idea for more than the minute I am typing this answer out.

To sum up my argument:
[red]FUCK NO!!![/red]

I dont see how registering AWs as class 3 is caving in.  We could still get all of them, just have to wait for paperwork.

What you don't realize is the hell that you have to go through and the wait to get anything class 3. Many states forbid class 3 altogether. Other states are dependant on the local Sheriff for a signoff.

So, you want to build a AR? Under your plan, I'd have to fill out a Form 4 in duplicate, get two sets of fingerprints, two passport photos, and hope my Sheriff would sign off. Well in my county, my sheriff won't sign jack shit, not even for private ownership by his own officers. So I'd be fugged, period. Even if he did sign, that takes two plus weeks typically for an CLEO approval, then I have to send the paperwork to BATF with a check and it takes 6 months minimum for the approval to come back with the Stamp. Then it's registered in my name and I cannot sell it without someone going through the same orderal. Not only that, I couldn't buy a %80 receiver and build an AR myself.

Now explain to me how your concept is superior to the old AWB where I can buy as many AR's as I like and all I'm sacrificing is a bayo lug and a collapsable stock? I'd much rather have that restriction than not being able to own an AR at all under the NFA.

Fuck 'em it's time to make a stand, it's time to get some one on one sensible communication with the policrats, they need to understand the issue like Larry Craig does, kick their asses out of office for not representing the will of the people that they are supposed to represent. Time for the '86 ban to go, attach it to some unemployment bill, time for the GCA of '68 to go, attach it to some baby milk safety bill. The bullshit laws are bullshit, time for some criminal control and that includes controlling the criminal politicians. VOTE THEM OUT.

Why don't we just eliminate all unconstitutional gun laws?
3/3/2004 12:22:55 PM EDT
[#12]
Ummm...no.

Maybe in your state thats a wonderful idea, but there are some of us that live in areas where getting A CLEO signoff would be impossible (northern illinois comes to mind).  That's even ignoring the fact that Class three items are pretty much prohibited in Illinois anyway.  I'd like to at least keep the rifles that I already have, so thanks, but no thanks.

No no and FUCK NO!!!!!!! Did I mention NO?
3/3/2004 12:28:03 PM EDT
[#14]
Yes! i realize class 3 is a bitch to go through. But i would rather go through that than not have them at all.------- And as far as machine gun bans in certain parts of the country, dont certain parts of the country ban AWs too? even the ones without suppressors??----------  And as i said the next ban will be much much worse than the old one and i can amost gaurantee if it goes through you wont be able to own anything that even looks like an AR. :(

2WPs got the best idea.  All unconstitutional gun laws repealed.

Registration of AWs?  Uh, no.  NO MORE COMPROMISE.  NO MORE COMPROMISE.

Did I mention NO MORE COMPROMISE?  It's a dumb idea.  I know it's just speculation, but a dumb idea nonetheless.

Throw in an instant approval system for all ATF forms (maximum 3 day delay for flagged requests), and it might be interesting....

Im not posting these senarios to piss on anyone, or to be pissed on but------------Bookmark this post, and on the day after they pass the new sweeping ban and you CANT buy or TRANSFER AW's or even the piddly shit copies of them, and are faced with the fact that your children will not be able to get them either when they grow up,_--------------see  how stupid it sounds then???
3/3/2004 1:52:26 PM EDT

So all the AW owners would need to register their guns if they ever left the house? Why so the ATF guys can know where to go when they decide to ban them?  You know damn well the duck hunters won't care.

That day will not come in our lifetime.  We are too numerous and growing by the day.  Competitions using AR15's are too numerous and are growing by the day.  You can be guaranteed that like snow mountains with snowboarders, the politicians will have to accept us as our ranks grow in size.  We're already formidible, give us another couple of years and our weapons will be the norm at the range. Shit, they already are the norm!

[rolleyes]No thanks i like keep my semiautos classified just the way they are.

As for machine guns....It would be really nice to see the 86 machine gun act repealled.

Thats not likely to happen anytime soon though.

[#22]
That is perhaps the dumbest thing I have ever heard, and we are probably dumber for reading it.

Look, this law would essentially screw millions of us out of being able to own an "assault rifle", as many states are C&R only. This would eliminate those who live in those particular states from owning an ar. Moronic.

I'm not doing that. Hell no!

Great idea!

I'm a little concerned that owners of cars that are capable of exceeding 75 mph didn't come up with it first, though. Why do you suppose that is?

[smartass] But assault weapons are already NFA firearms! [/smartass]
