This... Whenever a site requires their sellers to register, it means they are traceable. If there is any sort of feedback forum, it is reliable. Armslist has neither.
I saw a new FDE Sig 716 for sale on Armslist. It was priced waaayyyy too good to be true. But I wanted to see what would happen. I contacted the guy by phone, got his voice mail, and left him a message telling him that I wanted to drive out and buy the rifle. Supposedly, the guy was "local". He answered me by text message (with a local area code) telling me that he doesn't do face to face sales, and that I should send him a money order, and he'd ship the rifle to my FFL. (Armslist states never to do business unless it's face to face.) Plus, the dudes texting skills sucked.
I played along... He texted that he's been selling for 18 years, and that I'd be completely satisfied. I told him that I wanted to move forward, but wanted to speak with him, because I had a few questions. An hour later I receive a phone call from some guy with a middle eastern accent, speaking broken english, and he was calling from an area code in.... wait for it..... Alabama!!!
"You want rifle? I make you good deal." he said. Then he quoted me a price hundreds higher than what was on Armslist. I told him that I wanted to pay the price on Armslist, and he said - and I'm not kidding - "we start the negotiate there." I offered him a dollar more, and started laughing... I hung up shortly after.
I went back to Armslist and tried to report the listing. I checked back a week later, and it was still for sale. Armslist is good for FTF sales on small stuff. But be careful.
