Back in 2000 I bought a pager for my son and a 1 year contract for pager service.
When the year was up I got rid of the pager and got him a cell phone.
Yeasterday a get a phone call from a collection agency saying I owe for a 2nd year of service because the contract has a clause stating that a second year of service was automatically added on if I didn't call and specifically cancel it.
I say I bought a year's service, used it and then used it no more.
Can a contract in CA have a self renewing clause like this?

Looks like it to me.

Read the small print.

Depends on the state. I'd say it is certainly possible, probably probable. YMMV, consult a local attorney or consumer credit agency
