buy a .50 BMG, cut off the muzzlebreak, and fire it from the shoulder. then you can tell me about recoil

i still have 'loaders thumb' and 'shooters shoulder' from last saturdays session.
for kicks, try this: synthetic stocked H&R Topper 12ga. shooting Remington 3" mag slugger slugs. My H&R weighs in at a little over 6lbs - do the math 6lb shotgun+ 3"magnum slug= OUCH! |

I have the same shotgun and have never shot anything but one ounce loads. I do not know how to do the math but went by life experiience. Mild Bill |

I would recommend cutting off any breaks at the muzzle. It could split and ruin the entire barrel. |

I have an old single barrel shotgun, with "palmetto Model 1" stamped on the side. 22" single barrel, hardly a fore-end to speak of, and a poorly shaped butt-stock. With anything more than low-brass dove loads, its no fun. |

Friend of mine has a 300 weatherby Mag,synthetic stock and fluted BBL,never shot it,but it has busted many eyes open.

HA HA HA  YEAH ME Too........(by the way that has only been a problem with saboted ammo(SLAP). When the sabots exit the barrel they catch the muzzle brake.) |

My little freedom arms 97 in .45colt loaded with 300gr LBTs over 21gr. 'lilgun gives a nice push.
300gr+1400fps+36 oz handgun= ouch. Accurate as could be wished for though, at least the first one! Can't shoot too many of those without developing a flinch. I had some 45-70 loads for my marlin guide gun that kicked pretty hard too. I like 7.62 NATO, that's a nice satisfying recoil you can enjoy over and over all day long. |

I fired a few rounds through a 7mm STW a few years back, and still remeber how nice the recoil was for such a flat shooting cartridge.
As far as magnum level recoil is concerned, I have a rule. If I can stick my little finger in the end of the barrel, I don't shoot the rifle.

My 700PSS in .308 has the most recoil of any gun I own and it's not bad at all. It used to be the 8mm Mauser for a long gun and an airlight .38 for a handgun, but I sold both of those. I'm not recoil sensitive, but it is detrimental to the type of shooting I practice. Recoil is the enemy of putting rapid accurate hits on target.
Even my 12gauge has little more recoil than an AR-15.

.416 Rem will open your eyes.. .460 Wby mag I have been told is a brute.. Its not finish yet, but the test fire was really impressive.!! |

My first experience with significant recoil was when I was around 9 or 10. My uncle handed me his bolt action .375 H&H thinking that I would puss out and not shoot it twice. In fact I shot it about 10 times that day and I still love that rifle.

I carry a Smith and Wesson 340 PD in .357magnum. Every once in a while I really enjoy just one or two rounds out of it. I don't drink and never have but suspect that it is like a shot of something snappy but painful if abused.

Try doing a torture test on a .50
We had to fire 5k rounds through an M82A1 in one day for the Israelis. I had a nosebleed at the end of that test. |

I've got a .458 Lott and a .416 Rigby waiting at home for me but the heaviest I've fired is a 9.3x74 Tikka 512 (slightly less energy than a .375). It had a crappy pad, and didn't fit well. It was aggressive, to say the least, since it wasn't that heavy either. The forend also came off occasionally during recoil. That got sold off after not too long.

I sold my Blaser in 460W mag because the recoil
was just too much . Off bags on a bench , it was close to un-shootable . Right now the hardest thumping weapon I own is a tossup between the .50 Beowulf and a M1S90 firing 3" mag slugs . Both are tolerable but still cause those pinpoint bruises in your skin if you fire too many rounds . Maybe I'm just getting old , but I enjoy shooting way more If it's not hammering the shit out of me  |
