Gonna watch it tonite, the new version, in honor of the passing of that lunatic. |
What book was it based on? I forget. |
Heart of darkness |

Great Rant by Dennis Hopper. Do you know what the man is saying? Do you? This is dialectics. It's very simple dialectics. One through nine, no maybes, no supposes, no fractions. You can't travel in space, you can't go out into space, you know, without, like, you know, with fractions. What are you going to land on, one quarter, three-eighths, what are you going to do when you go from here to Venus or something -- that's dialectic physics, OK? Dialectic logic is there's only love and hate, you either love somebody or you hate them. |
HUH???? The whole movie is full of this kind of meaningless dialogue. It's like it was written by a bunch of monkeys with typewriters. Totally meaningless. |
You have to take it in the context of the movie. This is someone who was in the jungle too long, and has seen unreal happenings. |
|
He has like a whole scene. It's not like he did some walk through cameo. Why does everyone think he's hard to find? |
According to imdb he's Eagle Thrust Seven Helicopter Pilot (uncredited) The air cav commander is Bob Duvall. Ask Hokie. |
Exactly, usually the "book" is almost ALWAYS better than the film ( i.e. Lord of the Rings ) BUT in the case of Apocolypse Now the film was MUCH better than the book. "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad is truly one of the most over rated pieces of crap I have ever had the displeasure of reading. Apocalypse Now actually makes it bearable. I do completely understand why the film was edited to it's standard format for the theaters upon it's originalrelease though there are certain things I like about the "redux" version. It is a sahme that Cppola didn't work a bit harder on the technical accuracy of the more military aspects of the film...but I still think it's very interesting. |
ok i stand corrected i must have been thinking of somthing else |
Whew--I thought I was just stupid.

I can't forget Coppola " act like you're fighting!act like you're fighting!" ... I'm not sure it was ever meant to be an accurate recreation of Vietnam. But with GulfWar II going on, I've thought about Kurtz more than once, and I've wondered if he was crazy after all. I use his phrase "like a diamond bullet to the brain" a lot. |
Naw, my "Hooked on Phonics" tapes showed up last week so I am doin' better with 'dem reedin' books now. |
I thought that whole French thing was really out of place. Had they made a movie based on just the French plantation owners experiences during the Viet Nam War, it might have been kind of interesting. |
