I've heard to use shade 14. only one of mine is adjustable up to that high, the rest are fixed shades.

use the pinhole box method and look at the image projected by the pinhole. you won't be seeing the corona very well, but you won't burn your retina, either

I don't and I don't want any. I've never thought it was a good idea to look or stare at the sun, and  I'm not trusting a 10 cent pair of glasses to protect my vision even if I wanted to.

I'm sitting out in front of the hospital I work in, waiting on a nurse to show up so I can give her mine. She REALLY wants to watch it, and couldn't find any, so wtf...

Got a professionally-made solar shade for one of my camera lenses.   Still not gonna stand there staring for an hour.

Nope and I didn't even try to find any.  I made a projector instead.

I'm going to walk out and check out the darkness, I'll save looking at the sun for the millions of pictures and videos that will be online.

If you hold out until its about to start, I bet she would give you a rimjob for them. People are insane about the eclipse.

#14 shade welding glass will work. Any welding supply house and lots of hardware stores including tractor supply. Assuming they aren't all sold out, kind of late. Run around $8. If you know anyone who TIG welds they should have some.

We're going to use a couple of paper plates to make a quick-and-easy shadow box.
It's overcast now, so I'm not sure if the weather is going to cooperate today.

Make sure the filter density is #14 or greater. Some of the welding shops are saying they only sell #14 filters when a solar eclips is about to occur.
That should tell you something.

I had a chance to buy them a couple of weeks ago at 7-11. full box right in front of me, 2 pairs for $1.99. Of course everyplace is sold out now. I have no idea how safe those glasses are anyway.

Plus I'm still a little shell shocked from the 70's when my mother was screaming I was going to go blind during a solar eclipse. I may just take my kids and hide in the basement.

I hear you can stare at it for 30 seconds or so before retina burns. So you got a good 20 seconds you can look at it. Im thinking 20 second stare, 10 second break and repeat.

You mean you don't trust a random pair of eclipse glasses made from who knows where to protect your vision for the rest of your life?

Not me. Mine were made in Tucson Arizona by Lunt Solar Systems.

I tested them out and the high noon sun looks like an orange circle surrounded by black. I looked my shop lights in the garage and couldn't see a damn thing. I think I'm gtg.

I heard that amazon refunded everyone who bought them, because of the liability of using fakes
