use a paint marker.

i think the key would be a clear coat to protect it.

Are these personally owned helmet or issued equipment? Do they offer any ballistic protection? I imagine with the internal comm equipment they are pricey (edit: looks like they go for about $1000 w/o the face shield). It would be a shame if they are issue items which have to be turned in and repainted flat OD. I figure the career aviators and air crew probably buy their own.
