| I drive a half ton truck with a curb weight at ~5000lbs and pull a travel trailer with a gvwr of 7500 lbs. Are E load range (aka 10 ply) necessary or overkill? I only tow the trailer for leisure (weekends and a couple week long trips a year, not full time rvers) but want to make sure I'm equipped right since the family is in the truck with me. |

If you are just towing occasionally and not under grueling conditions you can get away with regular tires and many will tell you that they are fine and much cheaper.
you can also trust your life to a high-point. most likely, both will get the job done but do you really want to skimp out when your life and the lives of your family are on the line? as a side benefit, the "E" range tires will hold up better, tow much better, won't drive you gray early wondering "IF?" and last much longer under the same conditions. |
