Gentlemen,
I've had a pipe for the last ten years or so and I enjoy it immensely but I rarely smoke it and when I do it's usually just cheap tobacco from the grocery store. I'd like to get started with some better tobacco from an online retailer but the problem is I don't know what I like and thus I don't know what to order. What are some good beginner's sampler packs and where should I order them from?
Thanks

Do you have a brick and mortar store nearby that sells pipe tobacco?

I'd really recommend stopping by there with $40 or so and buy several ounces of various bulk tobacco to see what you really like.

If you're wanting to buy something that's consistently good from an online vendor.  Look for Samuel Gawith's Squadron Leader.  It's like smoking a campfire.

Unfortunately, no. My area is definitely lacking in the cigar store/tobacco shop arena. The best local option I have is a gun store nearby that sells a few different kinds and I haven't been too impressed with the ones I've tried.

I would recommend Boswells, they have decent prices and their blends are delicious. Cherry Smash, Christmas Cookie, Berry Cobbler, they all taste very nice and have a great aroma.

http://www.pipesandcigars.com has some tobacco samplers, I don't have any particular recommendations, but I deal with them all the time and they are great.

You need to narrow it down a bit, do you pefer tobacco that tastes fruity or candylike or do you like tobacco that tastes like tobacco? That will tell you whether to go with aromatic or nonaromatic blends. Another important question is on the strength, do you like alot of nicotine or do you prefer tobacco that has hardly any or perhaps somewhere in the middle?
