Part of my family comes from Trinidad and Tobago. As it turns out, the gun registration system down there is INSANE. You have to register it with the po-pos ( which are corrupt in the first place ), you can't own any type of semi-automatic firearm, you cannot add on things to your current firearm unless checked first, and every month or year somebody comes to INSPECT your gun. No hunting bows are allowed, camouflage is illegal for non-military personell, and the drug laws are lax as hell. The result? The annual kiddnapping rate has skyrocketed. A bridemaid from my mothers wedding had her child kiddnapped - it is so common, I have that link to it. The abducted folks first comprised of wealthy buisnessmen that were held for ransom, and now consist of everybody - including children 2 and below. The annual murder rate has also skyrocketed. My step-grandfather has his father cut apart by a machete in his sleep. Murders are occuring EVERY day. The rate of burglary has skyrocketed - people cannot defend themselves with firearms, so many have resorted to carrying a bamboo stake in their car - which is pretty useless as many of them leave them in there, and most are not trained in the use of a club or staff. Gun crimes have skyrocketed. The Defense Force for the islands recently lost a 5.56 Galil from their base - it ended up in some random ass house. Luckily, the dumbass who got it did not know how to operate it. A WHOLE Venezuelan family ( down to the armed 13 year old girl ) was arrested for having several full-auto AKs, unregistered/illegal ammunition, and two blocks of cocaine ( technically not a gun crime, per say, but they were in the possession of a drug cartel ). Combine all this with the fact that the current administration down there is TOTALLY corrupt, and the police force is next to useless, that country is just one great example of how effective gun control really is. So, what will you do once they start to take YOUR guns, eh? |
| This could be used as the basis for an interesting magazine article in National Review or one of the NRA publications. We've been hearing about ridiculous gun laws and skyrocketing crime in England and Australia, but almost nothing about other the many other countries that also discourage their citizens from owning guns. It would be good to put Trinidad on the map, so to speak. |

Skibane, you are correct. Trinidad is a better example than England, because everything down there is not spread out. All the chaos is happening in one small space, which shows that location of anti-gun nations and the relative size has NOTHING to do with the equation. Think that the NRA magazine might be interested in this? |
