Get US out of the UN!!
Secretary-General Kofi Annan expressed relief on Thursday that the bulk of promised U.S. arrears payments would probably be remitted this year, despite Washington's removal from the top U.N. rights body

But he told reporters before leaving for the White House for talks on AIDS that attaching conditions to U.N. dues was unacceptable. "Member states should pay in full and on time and without conditions," he said.

An angry House of Representatives on Thursday froze the third payment of U.S. arrears, some $244 million due next year, until the United States regains its seat on the Geneva-based Human Rights Commission. But it appears $582 million promised to the world body in January will be paid this year.

Washington was voted off the rights panel a week ago for the first time since the commission was founded in 1947. It competed against three European Union states -- France, Austria and Sweden -- for regional slots allocated to Western nations.

"Obviously, following the vote there is a level of frustration and anger out there and I hope the dust will settle and we look forward to the future," Annan said, adding he had "no doubt" the United States would rejoin the panel next year.

He expressed disappointment at the House's amendment attached to the $244 million but said, "I am told it is the best we can get."

But he was relieved no conditions were put on the larger $582 million payment, which was part of a December deal at the United Nations that resulted in a lowering of U.S. dues and peacekeeping payments to the world body.

Any violation of the December agreement, approved by the 189-seat U.N. General Assembly "would have been seen as a break of faith by other member states," Annan said.

Under a complicated bill in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee several years ago, the United States attached several conditions to paying off some of its U.N. debt, now close to $2 billion for peacekeeping and administrative costs alone.

Two years ago it paid $100 million. Following the deal on the dues in late December, the Senate approved and the House is expected to do so this year, releasing payment of $582 million toward its $1 billion peacekeeping arrears.

The third tranche of $244 million due next year is to go to affiliated agencies, such as the World Health Organization rather than for dues or peacekeeping costs.

Aww come on.  How much rent is the UN paying for that choice piece of NYC real estate?  Set that off against what the US allegedly "owes."

No, forget that.  Screw the UN.  Problem solved.

Does anybody know what the other countries kick in?
Is it like NATO?
I heard that the US pays somewhere around 60% of the total cost of NATO. Is that true? If it is then the other 18? members would pay 2.2% each if split equally.

F*** THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard on FOX tonight we pay 22% or 25% of the cost of the UN, depending on whose numbers you believe. Screw 'em.

Headline I am waiting to see...

"US tells UN to GET BENT!

"President George W. Bush, with the full bipartisan backing of both houses of Congress, told the UN they will not get one red cent from the United States today.  Further, President Bush, in a direct call to Secretary-General Koffi Annan, told the United Nations that they have 48 hours to completely vacate the headquarters building and grounds graciously allowed to the UN as a worldwide headquarters, in order that it may be used for temporary housing for Harlem residents while the Harlem area is reconstructed.

"Annan is said to be 'distressed' by this dictum, and is currently unsure of the future of the United Nations.  It seems that the European Union has unanimously decided that the United Nations will not be allowed a headquarters anywhere in the member nations making up the EU, and the UN is worried about the security of theitr assets in the event they will have to relocate to a 'Third World' country - concidentally, exactly the countries that the UN is purported to help the most!

"The Unites States response to UN concerns is simply 'What have you done with all the money we have give you?  If you had used it properly, there would BE no 'Third World!'

"Moreover, the United States is considering a resolution that will find the United Nations in arrears for all dues, tributes, donations, and compensation for ALL U.S. manpower used in UN operations worldwide.  The UN will be liable for compensation backdated to the inception of the organisation, and will potenitally owe for any and all services and resources allocated to undertakings of its predecessor, the League of Nations.

"The American people are said to be deeply polarised on this issue, but a collective sigh of relief was had by the politically conservative people of the nation, and it is said that President Bush is almost assured of his re-election in 2004, and his popularity is indicated to be on a par with that of former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the only AMerican President to serve more than two consecutive terms, and to have done so with popular mandate in national elections."

You know, I decided tosave this one, and I will use it for a fantasy story for a few other boards.  I'll have to finish it, tho...

The way I see it the United Nations owes us a s***pile of cash! They constantly use our troops as mercenaries to work peacekeeping missions at U.S. taxpayers expense! That is worth billions of Dollars i figure they owe us and to pay reparations to the families of those killed on these bulls*** missions of no strategic interest to us! Not to mention back rent on that Downtown Property they have been using for free in New York city for the past 50 years which is another crapload of cash! Oh screw it lets evict the worthless, ungratful bastards with a admonishion to go to h***! and a map to get there! Or tell them to go F*** themselves and give them a condom so they don't catch vd in those third world countries they would like us to emulate![-!-!-]

Count me in!   Screw them both.

Let's not pay one damned cent to them and hope that they get so pissed off that we get booted out.

Damn, there I go with the wishful thinking again.

Does anyone think that other countries think that because we're members of the UN that gives them a right to have a say in the affairs of our country.   Not just a minor political opinion or disagreement with what we've decided for ourselves but to the extent that they think the UN should come in and help oversee things like the freaking Florida election recount, it extends to other things that are entirely within our own borders and these people have the nerve to think that they are part of a voting populace of US citizens or their opinion should be valued as such.

Let's really give them something to bitch about and yank away some of those cherished funds, I can only hope they will shrivel up and die.

You should see some of the European opinions I've encountered where they truely hate G.W. Bush for getting into office, I think they were really hoping and pulling for Gore.   It's a sickening thought and they can hope and pray for one politian or the other all they want but when they think their opinion matters for anything, they couldn't be any more dead wrong on the matter.   They were just pissed because they could see the derailment of their gravy train coming a mile away once Bush got into office, can't blame them for wanting Mr. "World Whore" Gore for president and it's no surprise either.

To think with all the billions we're given out in foreign aid through the years, these same a-holes vote us out? And Sudan is on the commission? It's time we stepped out of the UN. Let them fund their own lies.

From Korea to Kosovo.....we're not paid in full, we've paid in blood!!!

Since the US is more and more becoming the target for attacks over our "lifestyle" and "values" from the UN, I say we kick 'em out.

Let them relocate to some sunnier clime like Uganda or Tierra del Fuego.

I agree; get us out of the UN!  This is not an organization we are going to change from the inside.  No need for us to provide world wide welfare at US taxpayer expense while we get dumped on!

As far as the UN telling the USA what to do and trying to inforce it with blue helmets..."send lots of body bags!"  I think there is a limit to what Americans will put up with.

Dear Mr. Annan,

We delight in informing you that the citizens of this great nation we call the United States of America are NOT interested in your rantings about money due or global gun control (read - weapons confiscation and domination of all free peoples) or any other thing you may have to say!

We have a long and glorious history of great Americans who have been willing to fight and if need be die to keep themselves free.

Therefore we are not about to be told what to do or not to do by any wannabe dictator - particularly you!

We respectfully (or otherwise) decline your request/demand for payment of any monies to the United Nations due to the fact that we are no longer interested in being party to global domination in any form.

If in the future, should you deem it necessary to attempt to infringe on these freedoms, by any means, that have been so dearly earned by the aforementioned great Americans, we will take this action as a declaration of war and we will take whatever action is proper and necessay to overpower and defeat you at all cost!

Do not underestimate the mettel of the citizens of this great nation we call America.  If you do sir, you may or may not live to regret same!

Sincerely & Absolutely,

We The People -
The United States of America

Does he want the balance in 7.62x51, .50bmg, 7.62x39, 9mm, .45acp, buck or birdshot, slugs or just plain old .223?  The only hitch: Annan has to collect it in person, he can have the brass after he collects the bullets.

We either stay in or get out.

If we stay in, then our Constitution must be used as the UN foundation. Not some socialist ideology from countries that can't keep stable governments for more than 5-10 years.

It is a very serious matter when the United nations can mandate internationally what we Americans are allowed to do in our own country.  We have arrived at that point where We are being told what We can do in our own national parks. Americans have traditionally contributed more to foreign aide as a country and as individuals and now we have no say in various committees regarding Human Rights, etc...It is time we left the UN and fight against this "New World Order."  Before it is too late.
