I went out to the lake today to help my friend fix his boat. Seeing all the people out there carrying on, getting drunk and having a good time seems... wrong to me on this day. In my mind, today is a day of reverence, rage, and remembrance and should be treated respectfully.

Am I being too prude about it?

It is an individual choice IMO.

Not to pick a fight but do you feel your choice of spending the day working on a boat was somehow more reverential?

I sort of see your point, but what those people are doing is also a big "fuck you" to the animals who planned and executed 9/11. They want to destroy our way of life. So far they haven't.

What would piss off a bunch of terrorists who hate pork, porn, alcohol and our prosperity more than getting drunk, barbecuing some pork, maybe spending some time with a nice American woman and having a nice leisurely day on the lake not being afraid of their terror campaign?

I talked about it with the kids this morning....moved a new bed into the kids room, doing some painting and now cooking steaks for dinner.........what happened was horrible, we spent our time remembering.., but life goes on.....

A lot of Americans probably don't remember or care anymore but we as a nation have an obligation to
remember what happened on 9/11/01. I don't think the victims would want us to stop having a good time
on this day but, would like us to remember them and what happened.

I think remembrance is some what of a daily thing, and more so on the anniversary. What happened changed this country, but not living life is something they would love to see.

Nothing wrong helping a friend with a boat though.

This. I spent time at the range earlier and now am grilling steaks. I remember very well what today represents, but I'll be damned if I am going to dishonor those who died by putting my life on hold. I am an American by God, and I will freely enjoy my country, terrorists be DAMNED.

Rage and extreme sorrow it is. I know few people who even know what it means to be American. Hell in the Army I locked many a soldier for running inside at retreat

so not to salute for a few seconds.

Personally, I don't think the whole day needs to be spent in gloom and doom, or Memorial Day, or Veteran's day, or Pearl Harbor Day. I feel that it is appropriate to have some sort of memorial activity AND enjoy life and celebrate the freedoms our heroes have died for.

I think it is a much better practice to at least take a few moments EVERY DAY to remember those we honor on those days, rather than relegate it to a few isolated days a year.

All I've done all day is watch the news programs and post on here in 9/11 threads, pray for the victims, and watched the Gator game with my mom, her boyfriend, and one of my best friends (who went to work earlier for his third or fourth night of FTO at the sheriff's office here).
