I've never had a Nissan or Honda. But my wife and I like both about the same.

2 or 4 door? The 2 and 4 door Altima is nice looking, but the quality SUCKS! i have a new 2008 Altima as a company car and the damn A/C broke in a month, the whole system needed replacement because of metal particles contaminating it.

As for the Accord, the 2-door is SWEET looking, but the 4-door is damn FUGLY!

Hondas tend to hold their value the best.

One instance is ancecdotal.

I've been driving Altimas (rented) to Mississipoi and back (Indy) and the mileage is insane.

Very comfortable, but a little loud (engine and wind),

Never had a problem with the dozen or so I've rented.

4 door. It will be a family car. I am leaning toward the 4 cylinder in either one.

Honda is a 1000 times better.  The Altima may be fun to drive, but Nissan's QC is pretty shitty (as far as Japanese imports go).

IMHO, this is like comparing oranges to kumquats...

The Accord (Honda's flagship) should be compared to Nissan's Maxima.

The Nissan Altima should be compared to a Honda Civic.

Right now I am driving a '08 Altima 4-door.  It is a rental b/c someone hit my car.  I really like it.  I am thinking about buying a 2-door Altima b/c it looks nice.

The Altima is a domestic car.  Designed for the American market and built here.

The Accord is made here in Marysville, OH and I thought it was designed in the USA too? But QC is better.

I do love the keyless remote and push button start of the Altima, it's still better than a POS Mazda 6 - that's worthless Ford junk

I had an altima SE-R, and attempted to replace it with an accord.

The only thing the Accord really has on the Altima is a quieter cabin.

Other than that, Honda is far too proud of their shit, and their 4cyl is anemic.

I agree the Honda is the better car.  I voted Accord.  I've had some exceptional Honda cars.

I own a Nissan, but it's a 2001 Maxima that was built in Japan with 100% Japanese parts.
They actually sell the Maxima over there.  So I figure they took more pride in the design.  The fact that the car is trouble free seems to back me up on that decision.

I test drove some used Altimas and they all seemed like they didn't hold up well.

Just went through same decision.  Bought the Altima because I didn't like the looks of the new Accord.  But if I knew then what I know now, I would have chose the Accord.  The front seats in the Altima are a joke.  Uncomfortable for rides longer than about 20 minutes.

I'd get the Honda, myself.*  The paint WILL peel off of anything made by Nissan.

My sister does seem to like her Altima, though.

*-Actually, I wouldn't get either, but if you limit me to these two options, Accord.

Most people don't purchase 4 cylinders to drag race.  While it's no rocket the Honda 4 cyl can hold its own against any other 4 banger and will go a quarter million miles without any maintaince but oil changes.

There is nothing on the road today that has the same levels of quality control as the Honda Accord with the one possible exception of the Toyota Camry.

Two of my best friends had a Nissan Maxima and loved theirs, so years ago I bought a 2000 Nissan Maxma SE.  Only bad thing was the oxygen-sensors going out (known issue) which sucked.  Other than that, it's been a great car and I'd buy again.  One of those same friends has since added a new Nissan Altima to their garage.

I'm driving a 2002 Accord EX with 136,000 miles on it.  I bought it new and have only had to provide routine maintenance.  Nothing has failed on it.  I love it.

My next vehile will likely be a Honda.  I just hope the Sirius/XM merger happens by then as Honda is contracted to XM.

Accord.

Altimas have supposedly improved by leaps and bounds, but so has the Accord and it began as a better car in the first place.
