I really do like that guy. A LOT. Only he, Newt Gingrich, and the great Renauldus Magnus have ever kept me completely spellbound during a speach. What a crying shame he doesn't stand a chance of being elected. Racists on both sides will deny him the opportunity... [:(] |
| I have always found Mr Keyes to be a very articulate individual. He isn't afraid of saying what has to be said and isn't too concerned if it's politically correct. Unfortunately much like Ron Paul he doesn't stand a chance of gaining a position in our gov't that he could effect some positive change since the system seems to be geared to the status quo and anyone who bucks that system is usually marginalized. Most of the people I've talked to about Alan Keyes don't like him because he seems to "religous" for their taste, yet they plant their nose firmly in Dubyas backside. If he could get on the ballot I'd vote for him. |

Being from ALabama, I too get the "Racist Redneck" comment from certain people of ignorance when I make my feelings known regarding true racists such as AL Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Louis Farrakhan. (Who have done more to keep people of color down than all the Klan members in history collectively..it's their meal ticket) I simply point out to those ignorant assholes that I would vote for Mr. Keyes in a hearbeat over any of the white men on the ballot. Their answer? 1) "I ain't never be heard of no Alan Keyes. Who that be?" or 2) "Foo, Alan Keyes be's whiter than you..." Sigh... SG |

SG I'm sure you noticed that when the Alabama Republican Party had its first-ever pre-Primary Caucus four years ago, the media barely-if-at-all reported that a black man - Alan Keyes - won the Caucus. I was a delegate - I proudly voted for Keyes. (A qualifier - Keyes was here in person & "W" wasn't; if "W" had been here he most likely would have won.) But none of that matters because when most people think of Alabama & race relations in the same thought process, their minds reflexively recall images of Bull Connor & fire hoses or the Pettus Bridge in Selma... thanks again, "Media," for perpetuating those images again & again & again... [:(!] I have met & spoken with Keyes twice - at the Caucus & at a Pro-Life banquet a couple of years earlier. I am utterly impressed with him & would support him for ANY office - unfortunately (as stated above), he is unelectable... [:(] |

Quoted: Quoted: "I ain't never be heard of no Alan Keyes. Who that be?" "Foo, Alan Keyes be's whiter than you..." You Alabama folks talk funny. Yeah, it's just us.[rolleyes] In my business I have several Viginians that I deal with regularly. I almost had to hire a translator..sound like they're trying to talk with wads of cotton "in theyah mauosth". Virginians have no room to talk there. OTOH, if that was a shot at my "ebonics", that was meant as a very good approximation of the grammar of the idiots that are saying such to me. I highly suspect that such folk would sound the same regardless of where they hail from, as ignorance, IMO, has it's own special vernacular. SG |

My two favorite black people are Alan Keyes and Walter Williams. Williams is an economist (but don't hold that against him, maybe he can't help it [;)]) and I love reading his column in the paper. Put these two guys on the ballot and they've got my vote, guaranteed. |

Quoted: How about Ron Paul & Alan Keyes at the top of the ticket? Viable? Unfortunately, I don't think either one of those fine gentlemen would be viable. I would willingly give my time and spare money to getting them on the ticket for President/Vice President. I don't care which one sits in the Oval Office either. I consider them BOTH to be more then qualified for the position! |

I had the great privilege of working on his Senate campaign here in MD back in '88, before he was well known on the national scene. He is the most captivating political speaker I have ever heard, and he doesn't rely on cheap rhyming gimmicks ala Jesse. However, he seems to have gone more towards speaking and commenting than trying to get elected. I don't mean compromising principles, just that making his point seems more important to him these days than anything else. Not saying it's bad, just what I see. |

He's the kind of man I would vote for as my president. I would love to see a Alan Keyes-Ron Paul ticket or a Alan Keyes-Larry Craig ticket, or as a last resort a Ron Paul-Larry Craig ticket for the whitehouse. Either one of these combinations would work for me, and I bet quite a few others who love freedom. |
