First off.... I know nothing about Airsoft.

I have an infestation of vultures that have been overwintering in my neighbors row of spruce trees.  They weren't a problem for me , what with normal activity and dogs being let out for yard poopin' and whatnot.  Then we went to Alabama to visit family and some Gulf Coast camping and surf fishing for the past month.

Wellll..... let me tell you... they had a heluva party on our deck while we were gone.   Shit everywhere.  So this is war now.

Firearms are out, what with this being a residential neighborhood and protected status for the vultures.  Even a wrist rocket with marbles would be tough to employ without a small chance of breaking a window downrange.  It's a nice neighborhood and I don't want to piss off the folks.

I've been doing the firecracker routine in the evenings for the past week when they come to roost, but I'm starting to run low on fireworks and some are starting to wise up that it''s only noise and won't spook anymore.

I need a non-lethal annoyance to use at about 25 yards minimum and 40 yards max.

Will an airsoft gun shoot that far and still have enough oomph to shoo the birds out of the trees?

Yep. Particularly if you go for one of the bolt action sniper rifle types.

I doubt anything past 20 yards or so for an airsoft would have any effect.

ETA I don't know anything about airsoft.

I had kind of a cheap single shot spring pistol that I shot a squirrel with once from maybe 15 yards. He was eating some fallen bird seed.

The fucker just looked around like what just happened then continued eating the seeds.

No doubt some of the nicer electric ones are more powerful though.

Airsoft will work.  You can find a nice gas powered or AEG (automatic electric gun) in your sporting goods store for under $100 that will do the trick.

I use a suppressed bolt 22 in my neighborhood an empty open field is downrange though.

This.

Or any chance you have or know someone with a paintball gun OP? One of these airsoft conversions will tear shit up too.

ETA: they are supposed to run at 550 FPS...They can run 700 easily

My airsoft gun shoots 20 yards easy and does not feel good at that distance.

A decent electric is going to shoot a .20 gram BB ~350fps on average. The spring powered sniper rifles tend to prefer heavier ammo (the one my kid had liked .28's) and average ~450fps. You notice when they connect.

OP, bottle rockets in a 2' section of pipe.

The pipe helps you aim and the bottle rockets, especially the whistler kind scare off most aminals.

KDFWR recommends pyrotechnics for vultures.  You need some bottle rockets, not just firecrackers.

That's pretty impressive.

I think I'll try and find an electric auto gun though.  There's like 50 of the damn things hanging around here now.

thanks, all.

I love how the kids next to the shooter keep looking back and forth trying to figure out wtf just happened.

Oh man. Someone would have to bleed a lot for me to get over that.
