So my buddy, who hate's military old bolt actions, just gave me a 1903 springfield that's been restocked and rebarreled.

He got it in trade with a browning clay gun, the guy said he bought it off of an old gunsmith who recently passed.

The problem is that we have no clue what make the barrel is, looks like a standard sporter barrel.

It's hand stamped ( not very well ) 243 WIN on the left side of the 24" barrel.

Underneath the barrel it's stamped 798 and it looks like a clean machine stamping.

The barrel is not drilled or tapped, no sights.

Any idea who stamps their barrels with 798 underneath ?

Thanks,3

Look at Remington 798.
