I've never had a digital camera. Looking to get one to take pictures of things to sell. Don't want to spend a fortune. Something that works in moderate room lighting, with a vivid and sharp display would be good; and also something to pick up fine details, such as barrel lettering, receiver markings, etc. No more than $300.oo. Any experienced camera opinions welcomed. Thanks!

You can find the Canon A80 4megapixel camera for around $300 now.  Very nice camera, takes very clear pics.

Thanks, Rik. Will look for that. And Canon, top notch.

I've had very good experience with Olympus (especially those in the Camedia series).

Much like advice on pistols:

Get a major brand.  Nikon, Canon, any like that will be fine.

One that uses a major type of ammo (or, data card in this case).

Get one that fits your hand, and has all the required controls easily available.  (Having to dig in menus to find your options is NOT what you want to be doing)

Plan to take thousands of shots with it. (digital pix are all but free, and the more you take, the more you can delete to get the absolute best shots.)
