"Dude. If you commit a crime and a cop takes your gun away, is that a 2nd Amendment question?

These folks were told to leave, thouse that did not are FUCKING UP in a criminal manner.

The bill of rights is a polocy, and in wierd times parts of it have to be "ajusted" for the common good. The diffrance here is once things get back to what passes for normal folks will ba able to have firearms again.

If you ask me the AWB is/was a much bigger overall threat to freedom long term."

I have been surprised just how many people actually think this way over the last few days.  People that I speak with regarding a lot of issues and that normally agree with me on firearm issues are in total agreement with the .gov on the confiscations.

My head is about to explode.

Look, the explanation is real simple:  People don't get taught SHIT in school about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, or any of the principles on which this country was founded.  Those topics are WAY too dangerous to the gummint.

As a result, you have a bunch of folks in America who think "good/right = whatever da gummint says."  And of those people, you have many who believe in law and order, and they translate THAT into the following equation:

gummint = authority = law = what is right.

If you want to get technical, Natural Law theory says some things are right/legal now matter what, i.e., rights to life/liberty/property.  Positive Law theory, however, says what is right/legal is whatever the gummint says is right/legal.  We have been living in a Positive Law world for decades, and that is all some people know.

and, many of those people are attracted to the police and military because those organizations provide the chance to provide the order these people find so dear.  This is not a blanket indictment of ALL members of the police or military, just a note that many "law and order" types end up there.

I'm a fairly old, and reasonably respected member over there under another name.  It is my personal belief that a good proportion of those guys would march their fellow gun owners to prison if they were ordered to do so.  Maybe they wouldn't be HAPPY about it, but they'd do it.

I agree with you.  It was even opined that that thread was beginning to have the "arfcom stink about it".  I like the mod who said that when you are "in the sh*t" your oath goes out the window.  That is real good for Brad's business.

That is incredibly disturbing to me  - it seems like your oath is MOST important when you are "in the sh*t", and people who dont understand that should NOT be public servants (police, military, firefighters, elected officials, etc.)

So an oath is just meaningless words now?

I registered and looked at that site last night for a review of some 3 day packs and equipment that was posted there that I was interested in.  The comments made by the people who called themselves police and military in that thread were astounding.  The people who disagreed with their ideals were basically browbeaten and screamed at by one of the moderators.

It is also apparent that the government doesn't really understand how to use the prepared and armed citizenry to restore order. Even if the militia were to call itself up and show up ready, the police would turn them away - after disarming them.

True, and it is a crying shame that they dont....

Any ideas how that can be changed, other than making demands?

The government wants no part of an armed citizenry restoring order as it would infringe on their powers.

We all know that the US Constitution and Bill of Rights was written in pencil and comes with an attached eraser.

The dems and libs all know that they can "adjust" parts when it gets in thier way.

We all know this.

How silly of me. I've had so many arguments about the BOR and Constitution being a "living document" and lawmakers can redo or "fix" parts that are not worthy or correct. Makes me sick.

At worse case for the .gov, the citizen army would do a better job than the gov.

If the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution isn't to be upheld in situations like this (Katrina/N.O.) then it's already gone.
IT IS FOR SITUATIONS LIKE THIS THAT THE FOUNDING FATHERS WANTED US TO FUCKING HAVE GUNS...FOR PERSONAL DEFENSE, BOTH AGAINST UNJUST GOVERNMENTS AND SAVAGES!!!

Sorry to shout...got a little carried away......I need a beer...

I'm absolutely astounded by the events in NOLA and the remarks of folks - here and at other sites - who have sworn to uphold our Constitution.

I also have made my notes.

Last I checked, the Constitution was the highest law of the land; they're not a convenient set of guidelines for the government to follow only when things are hunky-dory.

LF is full of "RESPECT MAH AUTHORITAH!" types that expect the average serf to swoon at their exalted feet for being (choose one or more: A) police B) Special Forces/Ranger/SEAL/CAG C) signal weenies who went to the desert and think they're a bad-ass because they ran Cat 5 in the sand), and if you don't. you will be shredded.

I am a former 11B, and I'm really weary of the 'tactical' crowd's shit on the net.  If these guys are so high-speed low-drag and 'downrange' 'in the shit' 'in the box' and don't give a shit about anything why do they waste time on the 'net talking to serfs?

You can find the same attitude here ... go browse through the "brothers of the shield" forum.

expect to hear things along the lines of:

I would never take guns from law abiding citizens.

When they refused to get out after the manditory evac order, they became criminals.

So ... I have no problem taking guns from them (damn criminals).

And that's  how it will happen.  They won't take guns from modog, the law abiding citizen, they'll take guns from modog the child abusing cult member Nazi pornographer meth cooker.  Own a copy of Mein Kampf?  You're a Nazi.  Own a box of cold medicine?  You're a meth cooker.  Own a gun?  You're a right-wing zealot.

Then it's okay.

OK, let's look at one point that has been glossed over.

New Orleans was a $#!+ hole long before Katrina.  The Police Supt Eddie Compass was incapable of taking out the criminals then, the crack whores and dealers in the projects, the burglars, the street hustlers, the muggers.  Perhaps he did not want to piss off "his people".  Who knows.  But now he is taking revenge on the armed citizens who want to protect what they have left.  The ones who want to remain now are not the ones who had 8' of water in their house... they are ones without those problems, who, if the police will not leave them unarmed and their doors open to looters, can repair their homes and get their businesses back at work in a short time.  (What is the reason for police to pry the burglar  bars off the front of secured businesses?)  There are still some trapped due to high water, true, but those people are willing to leave.

Now the NO "authorities" have turned the dogs loose on those least likely to shoot at police.  If these were not peaceable citizens, there would be a lot of cops in body bags now.

The ones giving police and rescue personell trouble now are the same ones who gave trouble BEFORE Katrina.
