Would I be able to take a barrel that isn't rifled and is just plane and tap it so I could put choke tubes in it? The barrel is a 18.5 inch. The gun is a Mossberg 500.

That is a job for a gunsmith experienced in installing chokes. Seminole Gun Works or Briley come to mind.

You need special reamer, tap and experience to do it correctly.. Send it to a smith..

You got $600 burning a hole in your pocket? Also do you have a lathe to make sure that your square to the bore? Oh and another $150 in adjustable reamers.. Or send it to a smith and pay the $65 or so dollars to have one installed properly!

Mossberg has the threaded barrels for the 500 talk to the first.

My thoughts too. Why not just get another barrel for the Mossy?

You can get a 20" barrel with removable chokes from Mosseberg for $148.
