Anyone have acid reflux? I used to have it bad in my early twenties and sometimes I have difficulty swallowing if I haven't eaten for a few hours. I took nexium for awhile and it went away, now I am having occasional acid reflux again. It is weird, it will go away completely and I will forget about it, then all of a sudden days or even weeks later I will be starving and go to eat a big bite and not chew well and it gets backed up a little. Herniated esophagus?

I have acid reflux. I take OTC stuff like Prilosec. I hate having this shit.

Although I never get it from not eating anything like you described.

You don't have a problem at all.  I have that happen nearly every day, and considering it only happens so rarely to you, why are you posting about it?z

I'm not sure if it's acid reflux, but I have a "spastic esophagus", to the point where I will be gagging, and occasionally throw up.

Not pleasant

Google hiatal hernia. It's actually quite common in adults.

. He does have a problem and so do you. He is trying to get help and education about it, while you are getting closer and closer to cancer by refusing to see a doctor.

go see a doctor... i've had it for years and have been going for endoscopy and found out i have the makings of Barrettes syndrome in the esophagus due to acid reflux..... Barrettes syndrome is nothing to sneeze about.... it's a precusor to esophageal cancer....... that's why i regularly go to my doctor for follow ups.... YMMV

save yourself some aggravation and go seek professional help.......

Acid reflux has nearly killed me. I have had surgery twice. I am doing pretty good right now. My last surgery was done in St. Louis at Barns Hospital by Dr. Nat Soper. Dr Soper is the vice chairman of the gastrointestinal department of surgery and director of minimally invasive surgery for Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago now. Unfortunately my condition was to severe for minimum invasive surgery, they had to open me up.

I  suggest you see your Doctor asap and have your condition evaluated.

Acid. Sometimes it refluxes.

Try not eating late in the evening. Allow at least 2 hours before bedtime without food or drink except water.

Sure do. I take 20 mg of Aciphex twice a day. As far as I am concerned, it is a miracle drug. I also see my GI doc every September or October.

Dieting and losing weight has helped to some small degree.

I had it bad.  Every night, all week.

Two things that cured it for me;

1.  Change of diet.
2.  Stop eating couple hours before bed.

Also after eating it helped me to walk or work off a meal instead of just sitting around after eating.

I had acid reflux so severely that I had to sleep sitting up in bed every night.

I went on the Paleo diet for 3 months.  After 2 weeks on the diet (which consists of eating only raw fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and water) and my acid reflux went away entirely.  I have been off of the diet for 2 years now and am suffering from it again.
For me, I think it was the sodas and flour based products that was killing me.
I lack the discipline to stick with a healthy eating regimen apparently.

Anyway, it might be diet related.  Also, I noticed if I don't eat for 2 hours before bedtime and drink a large glass of water before I go to bed, I have fewer occurrences.

This is no fucking joke.

I'm watching my father die from esophageal cancer.  Get it checked out.

A guy I work with went to the doctor complaining about acid reflux like symptoms a few weeks back, and ended up needing a heart stent to widen a very blocked artery instead.

Sounds like esophageal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the esophagus making it difficult to swallow.  Acid reflux never goes away because the valve between your esophagus and stomach leaks.  All the treatments center around management: acid blockers, changing dietary habits, etc..  Cancer is a real concern.

You may simply need to up your dosage of nexium.  I take 40mg in the morning and if I don't make a pig of myself it's good all day.

the docs diallated mine. it's back to normal. i went on a gluten free diet for 2 months which made a world of difference, and now am back to maybe 1/4 gluten than i was.
the prescription drugs side effects (YMMV) are worse than what they help you with.
try charcocaps  http://www.charcocaps.com/ reducing your external gas output does help as it minimizes the build up of it in your stomach.
aloe vera juice and or slippery elm (over time) to do away with the acid reflux.
after a meal that you think causes AR eat some pinapple. the natural bromelin in pinapple aids in digestion and for me helps eliminate AR. I eat pinallpe say once every other day unless i feel a serious AR attack in the making.

I would strongly suggest you get an enddoscopy as the first foray into your problem.
the doc prescribed me an antibiotic specifically for intestinal bacteria. Xi (something) that acted like a Z pak only for the intestional area. that made a big difference as you have X amount of both good & bad bacteria in your digestive tract. an over abundance of the bad stuff can give you an infection like sympton you are not aware of.

WARNING:::
TO MUCH FIBER, is as bad or worse than no fiber in your diet at all. avoid over indulging in hi fiber diets as the fiber (in small doses) is goof for you. in larger doses does not digets and can further inflame an AR or other digestive issues you may have.

If two hours doesn't work, then try three or four.  I have to stay up at least four hours after eating, or if I ate a large meal, I will end-up with the contents of my stomach up in my sinuses.  It sucks having to blow what is basically vomit out of your nose when you're trying to sleep.z

I know some people swear by it...

Sometimes people will take a lemon and squeeze it in a glass of water before they eat a meal that consists of mostly bread, meat, cheese, spices, ect (acid causing foods)
It is suppose to do something with the acidity of the stomach.

I suffered a lot from acid reflux, my doctor finally gave me a sample of Aciphex, it worked wonders, but its very expensive, I then found Prilosec, works the same as Aciphex and only a small percentage of the price, generic version is Omeprazole, I take it daily.
