Hey nerds.

Figured I'd start a thread on this wonderful F2P (Mostly) game that should revive the Ace Combat series. Unfortunately it is only on PS3 for now, but depending on its success, it might spread to the PS4 or even the Xbox One.

So far its fricking fun and possibly a great redo of the series. I strongly recommend playing the first two campaign missions so you get an idea as to what happened on this planet.

Ooooo.

I have which ever one was released on 360 years ago.  Even bought a fancy joystick for it.

I will have to check this out! (Although, this will mean I have to buy a new joystick for the PS3.  Maybe I'll get lucky and one of my PC ones will work on it...)

Ace Combat 6?

God that game was fun, but the storyline made me want to eat golf balls and take laxatives.

Yeah, that was it.  Fires of Liberation.

Also, looks like my Logitch Attack 3 joystick works with PS3 with limited functionality.  But, might be good enough for this application.  Hoping to try it out soon, if work will stop kicking my butt with 12 hours days every day....

What about it is free to play?  Do I have to pay for an F-4 or F-22?

I played the PS/PS2 editions.

I abandoned it when it switched platforms. I thought the switch had killed it.

Its free to play, the only limit is a "Fuel" System and having to pay for more fuel if you want to play more. (You are given 3 fuel sorties, each sortie taking 1 unit, you can also stock up on fuel units by buying them or just waiting 3 hours per unit.)

Planes are free but it takes time to grind them and "Buy" them with in-game credits.

Same here, especially with AC6's lackluster sales and the series after that.

God I wish they could somehow port all the old AC games to PC somehow. I had asked my mom to rent Driver, but it wasn't available at the little grocery store rental place, so I ended up with Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere. Got hooked, and after AC:4 I don't think they ever got better. Except maybe Zero, that one had some of the older planes available again.

This "Free to Play" thing needs to hurry up and die. Same with DLC's that never happen, and yearly title releases. It's killing my favorite titles. I stopped at AC:6, the writing was kinda bland, and they changed gameplay for Assault Horizon. RIP Ace Combat.

Here's the thing, I want Infinity to succeed....

Why you ask? Simple, Namco said they would revive the old series and bring back Strangereal (Planet in which the main AC series took place) IF INFINITY IS A SUCCESS.....

If it isn't, then we are shit out of luck and we might as well kiss the series goodbye. (If Namco decides to be dickbags about the series and never sell it to others)

Never rely on a company's "promises" to do things only if you throw money at them, only to have them still fail and blame you for not giving them enough money, like it was your fault their game failed. Them saying they need you to buy into some mediocre game with the promise of reviving the old Ace Combat days is nothing but smoke and mirrors. Ace Combat's plight has more to do with their own decline in story writing, lack of things like a Co-Op full campaign, getting rid of old favorite aircraft, etc. The only two Ace Combat games that actually seemed to relate to one another were 5 and Zero. They really should have started trying to stitch their little planet together in a coherent way long ago. Why not explore the WW2 or Korea, Vietnam "Earth era" types of combat centered around the time period the meteors started impacting? It's a central theme in all the 4, 5, 6, etc games. How about introducing more "hardcore" physics and weapon modes for campaigns? Player made aircraft skins? I used to support my favorite series even though they were bad until I realized it was just an incentive for them to get worse. Why give them money in reward for substandard ventures? Ace Combat sadly has slipped into this category. After Assault Horizon I knew things were going downhill fast.

There's a reason I have slowly stopped playing a lot of my old favorite titles. Need for Speed. Call of Duty. Total War. Mechwarrior. They all were driven into the ground, either by producing the exact same thing every year, or by trying to push DLC to fill in or complete things that should have shipped with the game.
