Obviously most designs attempt to maximize both, but given the opportunity to tweak your rifle in one direction or the other, which way would you go?

What's the rifle for? That dictates the answer.

For a combat weapon, reliability first, then get as much accuracy out of it as possible without losing reliable functioning. It doesn't matter how accurate the weapon is if it won't go "bang".

For a range weapon, I generally won't tolerate a jamming weapon. I have an AR that is sub-moa (and sometimes sub-1/2 MOA), and it is extremely reliable. For handguns, I'm not too concerned about accuracy. For IDPA, you don't need anything special; but it just happens that my Kimber will groups under an 1'' at 15 yards off a sandbag with my reloads. It can do better than that, but I don't have a ransom rest.

Reliucracy

(I'd take 100% reliability if it meant a slight decrease in accuracy.)

relibablity

if it cant work like its suppose to, then accuracy is negligible to its use

I have an XCR...best of both worlds

If I had only one firearm I would want it to be reliable. By owning more than one gun you can have the luxury of both.

Reliability first

Look at the M16...accurate sure...but unrelieable.  Crappy combat weapon.

In ARFcom tradition, get BOTH.

But if I have to choose, then reliability.

Minute of pieplate at 200 yards is probably good enough. After all, the AK-47 has proven it's effectiviness in combat.

Can't be accurate if your gun won't shoot.

I'll take reliability.

I will not tolerate an unreliable weapon.

I think the AK proves this argument

accuracy...as you said which I would improve i am assuming reliabilty is ok but not perfect...

to me its like 10 rounds of spray and pray or two rounds with good sight picture .....hitting the target where you want to is more important then hitting the target many times all over....
