I used to use Canvas for coming up with quick drawings (my former employer supplied it).  It was quick, intuitive and fun.  But alas, I need something free or cheap.

What do you guys use?

Dia is a free, Visio-like program.

Google Sketchup is pretty good if you are looking for something quick and fast.

Looks nice, installing it looks like a nightmare.  You have to download and install a C compiler and various libraries, then find the latest version, etc....  Wow.  

I did find one that's not bad called Inkscape.

Gimp is good...a bit unintuitive for me though.
