That didn't look like A-10 footage, more like gunship stuff. Either way, badass!

Badass. They need to replace that awful song with Metallica's: Seek and Destroy.

The first few seconds were from an A-10, the rest was shots from UAVs.  The gun runs could have been either A-10s or Gunships.

Fucking awesome. Count the seconds between the shots and the impact. Holy shit they're a LONG way off!!

Doc

Looks like a UAV watching an A10 strafe with 30mm.

Why does it say "FAIL" In the lower left corner when there's so much win there???
Link Posted: 11/18/2008 9:09:30 AM EDT
that was some funny shit, I like that during the credits they mentioned the targets were provided by the taliban
Link Posted: 11/18/2008 9:10:31 AM EDT
Badass for sure.

What was the small white dot that seemed to fly around the targets?
Link Posted: 11/18/2008 9:11:47 AM EDT
Awefully small area to be a CBU I would think.  Maybe a TOT with ICM from a UAV?
Link Posted: 11/18/2008 9:12:24 AM EDT
They really shouldn't have been speeding!

That was the Taliban detector.  It detected Taliban fail.

I was wondering the same thing, maybe used to set up parameters for the bombing?

AC-130

Yes,  They can pretty much cover every square foot of the target zone with ordnance.

It's been a while since my flight sim days, but that white dot is a 'locator'.  It helps depict the orientation of the aircraft to where the camera is pointing.  The camera can rotate all around, so it is often looking 90, 270, 180 degrees away from the aircraft's direction of travel.  So, that dot helps the pilot (and film reviewers later) keep thing straight....

I think.  I could be wrong, of course.

How much do you think that cost?

If you take out 4 bikes with a 1 million dollar missle, it's not quite as impressive.
Link Posted: 11/18/2008 10:06:34 AM EDT
Holy shit that music SUCKED.

The video, on the other hand, was AWESOME.
Link Posted: 11/18/2008 10:07:33 AM EDT
They're going to need some serious tire patching kits for those inner tubes.

If one of those goat-fuckers was learning to fly a fucking 747 or was an IED guy, it's worth every penny.

It looks like it actually flies through the smoke at least once though.

ETA - at 51 seconds and 2:05, it appears to fly through the smoke.  At other times, it appears to be locked in as part of the HUD.  Also, it's thermally opposite of the motorcycles if it's something being observed and not part of the instrumentation.

It must be some part of the HUD.  I dunno.

Holy overkill Batman if that was an A-10...

I wonder when they will start using those 100lb mini bombs that are being designed for taking out individuals or small groups.  Not really a good use of ordnance to use a 500lb bomb or several hundred 30mm API rounds to kill 1-2 personnel.  Not that I'm criticizing their actions, they can bomb as many of those dirtbags as they want

Look like AC-130, not A-10
Link Posted: 11/18/2008 10:22:46 AM EDT
Most definitely an A-10.  Initial footage (in color) was A-10 symbology.  The remaining footage looked to be typically "Predator"-ish.  Too small an area to be a CBU (not to mention no air detonations or CBU panels falling around the impact zone), if you've ever seen ground impacts from an A-10 Gun Run it would've been obvious what it was.  The footage may not all have been from an A-10's guncam or HUD, but there was nothing in that video that came from an AC-130.  The GAU-8A Avenger was doing ALL the work.

Yeah, true. Could have been a UAV just watching the action and probably was.
