Is there a certain study guide I need to buy before taking this test?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Do you really want to be a controller, or are you just looking for a job?

you dont really need anything to study.. the test is designed to be aptitude based.. are you trying to get in off the street or are you at a CTI program?

from what I hear the only thing you can really do is brush up on your math.. in your head  soo no calculators...  also the traffic simulated portion is hard due to the crappy commands you have to give, so don't feel bad if you really screw it up...
I haven't taken it yet but this comes from advice I have received from people who have taken it up here at school.

I took the test back in 1987 and I do not know how much has changed, but, I will offer this:

Studying can help. There were three sections, one of which was on general ATC knowledge. Having some info on that helps tremendously (for example, knowing about letters of agreement and such) They asked those types of questions and studying beforehand made a huge difference. I bought the Arco Civil Service tutor book for the ATC exam and it was the best $30 I have spent.

Back in then, the passing score was 70, but you had to get 90 or better to be considered for a position (this varied by region). The rub was, if you passed the test, you could not re-take the exam for 18 months.

You had to ace it, or fail it (so you could take it again).

Good luck
