| I went to the library and got all the books they had for practice tests and tips. Are the practice test the same questions that are on the real test? Any tips for me? I have been studying like crazy. Thanks |

I have been studying like crazy. Thanks If you have been studying then you are going to do great. I took it in 30 minutes with a hang over and got a good score. It's pretty easy. ASVAB score doesn't matter that much its the GT line score inside of the ASVAB you need a 110 GT score to do anything cool. GT is General Technical iirc. |

Quoted: You would be surprised..... I thought it was stupid easy as well but when I was going through recruitment my recruiter called me and asked me to do him a favor and tutor some guy who got a 4 on the practice asvab......lol are you serious, I've never heard of anyone studying for it. It's not like it is the SAT or anything. I always thought it was fairly simple, almost a joke. That guy is someones boss by now. |

Pro-Tip #1: Relax
Pro-Tip #2: Get a good nights sleep the day before, no last minute cramming. Don't study at all the day before. Pro-Tip #3: Don't let your recruiter scam you into taking your ASVAB, and swear in on the same day. If for some unlikely reason you don't get the scores you need for the MOS you want, retake it. The ASVAB isn't like other test you have taken, its not meant to determine how smart you are, its meant to weed out the idiots. Its not hard to score above the needed MINIMUMS for your chosen MOS. This test just determines if you have the basic intelligence to perform at a certain level, nothing else. Its never used after your intial entry into the service. |

Your GT score will be the most important to determine your MOS in my experience. |

I've had other friends study for it, get blazed in the hotel the night before and get arrested. Don't get tempted or be dumb the night before and you'll be fine. |

This is an ACT/SAT test prep site that is associated with the army. Go there and register as a student, you can then take practice tests that are much more detailed than your typical asvab practice test. When i took the ASVAB a few months ago my main concern was the technical math, since it had been 8 years since i sat in math class. the test at the above link contains most of the stuff on the math portion of the asvab. The act practice math test will show you what you dont remember and allow you to focus any studying/ refreshing. Other than the math, there is basically no studying to be done. you either know the stuff or you don't. |

I got a 99 and a 142 GT, no practice. College was far more difficult. It was freakin' easy.
In my experience, if you understand basic algebra, English grammar, the names of basic tools like screwdrivers and hammers, solve simple pattern puzzles, are able to rotate simple 3d objects in your mind and solve visual mechanical questions (if you rotate crank A twice, how many times will gear Z turn? Or if the offset rotating oval turns twice, how many times will piston Z go up and down?) - you can even suck at electrical and technical mechanical questions - it's easy to get a good score. |

I scored a 92, yes really, I know everyone on ARFCOM scored a 100 (I know the scores only go up to 99, but I have had people claim 100's) but I really did get a 92. |

That's why I never ever post my score. As soon as ASVAB gets brought up in a thread it turns into a who can post the highest asvab score contest. |

Coolest thing about the ASVAB is despite the fact that a 50 is a middle of the road, statistically average score, everyone who takes it gets 90 or more. Only on arfcom. In the real world, 50% of people get 50 or less on it. For the OP, study your ass off. That score will be the single biggest factor that will eliminate you or qualify you for the good jobs. Don't listen to all the chest thumpers here who scored 99s hungover after a three day bender, with a head cold, one eye blinded, and hanging upside down. Most of them are full of shit. |

I thought my friend's brother was bad-he got a 7(friend enlisted while I was in, both of us got scores high enough to choose out MOS.) Hos brother never dod a retest, recruiter pretty much wrote him off as unenlistable instead of trying to teach him(prick). A couple years later the recruiter was kicked out for sexual misconduct with female soldiers.Glad to see him go. |

Geez, and here I was feeling bad for the guy that I shared the motel room with the night before going to MEPS... He got a 29 AFQT the next day and got sent home.

It is for some schools and if later on in his career he wants to reclassify. There was a time of day where what you said is true, but the Army is taking a closer look at ASVAB when it comes to military schooling. |

uhm.....backwards? ![]() You're an idiot. The answer is obviously hamburger.

My biggest fear in taking the ASVAB was doing well and enlisting and being in a job you're overqualified for.
Being surrounded by idiots is one thing, taking orders from idiots is the worst. You just can't quit like a job. You're stuck with stupid. However, if someone is smarter than you ( and the military has lots of brains) they'll make you look good. |

the ASVAB is so easy my dog could pass it, and get any job except nuke. Come on people, it's an 8th grade test, not rocket surgery! yep literally one of the questions was "what is a dog" a. a rock b. your mom c. a tree d. a mammal they said i could have any job in the military......I chose Infantry

Let me guess... you want in the Navy nuke program? I almost went into nukes until I met some of the guys going into it and got some straight scoop on what it took to succeed. At the time they were the stereotypical nerds. The money (bonus schedule) was pretty tempting but the fail rate was significant. I had just completed my 5th (not all consecutive) semester in a Chemical Engineering type program (Paper Science) and I had run out of money. I scored a 99 on the ASVAB so my score was not an issue. I was burned out from working nearly full time and going to school full time. I chose the highest bonus program the Marine Corps had to offer at the time and signed up I ended up rebuilding diesel and gas engines and drivetrain components while I was in. |

I did well on my test but I feel that is no reason to NOT help the OP better himself If anything all the wiz kids here here should be helping him to better himself. He has stepped up to do something for his country and we should be behind him. This... Why would you not want someone to score high??

I hoping Navy SEAL. I was going to do it in 2004 but had a close family death and things got put on hold. Ended up having to keep my job to help keep things running. One good thing though is I have two friends that were SEALs that are more than willing to help train me. |
