I'm going to be getting a Colt 6920 in the very new future and I was talking to a couple of my friends about it. Inspired by this clip from "Full Metal Jacket", they suggested I give my new rifle a name.
So, my question to you is: have you named your AR? If so what is it? I haven't really settled on one for myself, but I will eventually. So, tell us what your thoughts are. |

Good choice on the 6920. Yeah. I had read a lot and seen many reviews. I was fairly convinced that was what I wanted, even before I handled it. Then I was at the gun store the other day, and they actually had one in stock and I got to handle it and examine it and it felt amazing. I was sold. Now I just have to find one at a good price since that one was $300 more than other places I've seen it. |

Most of my long guns have names as well. Here's a representative sample:
-Colt M4 -LMT M4 -RRA build -6920 -Trunk gun -New 6920 -Class gun -Backup class gun -Skunk gun -Para FAL -Benelli M3 -Sporter A2 -Ruger 10\22 -870 Etc. My defensive pistols have the same naming convention for my convenience: -USP45 -USP40 -G19 -G26 -P226 -P228 -P229 By picking simple, descriptive names it's much easier to keep track of what's what. It's also easier on my shooting buddies when they are introduced, and then asked to say hello to my little friends. There's much less chance of an awkward silence as they consult the crib sheet, or read the built-in name tag. But hey, that's just me. It's nice to have a way other than model/type to call one. Plus the personification can build a trust. I'm not too original, my first truck was called Black, it had a black krylon paint job. My second truck was called gray, it had a gray paint job. My current truck is called green, it's forest green with a tan lower. When I or my friends/family talk about them, they don't have to know which was a 79 F150 or an 89 F150 or even a 2002 F250.
I have named my guns, I can't recall what I call my AR though. I am the only one who knows what they are named, but it gives me a sense of possession naming them. They are mine, and I gave them their names, I am all powerful over them. It's a stupid concept, but it makes me take better care of them and gives me more confidence in them. |
