What the hell do you call bread that is rolled around salome, other meats and cheese; or, better yet, how do you make it?

An old guy I once knew used to make his own bread that had all kinds of sliced meats and cheeses cooked inside of it; now I'd like to make the same.

Suggestions?

A pepperoni roll?  Just take pizza dough and roll stuff up inside it.  This is what you mean?

Stromboli.

Broder's in Minneapolis makes an excellent stromboli.

DELI STROMBOLI

2 to 2 1/2 c. flour
1 pkg. rapid-rising dry yeast
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. very warm water
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 tbsp. honey
Cornmeal
1/4 lb. sliced Provolone cheese
1/8 lb. sliced pepperoni
1/8 lb. sliced salami
Any other pizza - stromboli toppings: sauce, Mozzarella cheese, peppers, etc.

1. In bowl, combine 2 cups flour, the yeast and salt. Combine water, oil and honey; stir into flour mixture until soft dough forms.

2. Turn dough onto floured surface. Knead dough, add remaining flour until dough is very elastic, 10 to 15 minutes.

3. Place dough in an oiled mixing bowl. Turn to bring oiled side up. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double in size, approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

4. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Dust cookie sheet or jelly roll pan with cornmeal. Roll out dough to 18 x 12 inch rectangle. Spread ingredients over dough, leaving 1/2 inch border on each side. Starting at one short edge, roll up dough. Secure ends. Place roll, seam side down on pan.

5. Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes. Serve immediately.

Also called a calzone.

Calzone is Italian and means "big sock".

From calzonerecipes.com

Serving Size: 8

Ingredients:
1/2 pound italian sausage
26 ounces beef pasta sauce
1 cup fresh mushrooms -- sliced
1/2 cup green pepper -- chopped
1/2 cup onion -- chopped
2 packages refrigerated crescent rolls
1 egg -- beaten
1 tablespoon water
1 cup mozzarella cheese -- shredded

Cooking Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 F. In large skillet, brown sausage, pour off fat. Add
3/4 cup pasta sauce, mushrooms, green pepper and onion. Simmer uncovered
for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, unroll crescent dough and separate into 8
rectangles. Firmly press perforations together and flatten slightly. In a
small bowl mix egg and water, brush on dough edges. Stir cheese into meat
mixture. Spoon equal amounts of meat mixture onto half of each rectangle
to within 1/2 inch of edges. Fold dough over filling. Press to seal edges.
Arrange on baking sheet; brush with egg mixture. Bake 15 minutes or until
golden brown. Heat remaining pasta sauce; serve with calzones.
Refrigerate leftovers.

It's not really like stromboli, it has thin sliced meats, and it's not fully stuffed, . I like the pepperoni one. As far as I knew it was pepperoni bread, but there was one with cheese. It was always eaten room temp or slightly warmed. The pepperoni wasn't fully wrapped in dough either, it was kinda sticking out, and would get a little oily.

it's not a calzone

or an eppy, or hippy roll.
