Will a 22-250 Hornady 40gr V-Max go through an AR500 Level III+ body armor panel @ 15 yards?

Depends if you're throwing it or shooting it.

Are you gonna shoot one & find out - or are we just jerking off ?

In for the video.

Speed kills. I'd guess yes. No scientific data to back that up though. If it could stop that narrow of a bullet at over 4000fps, I'd be pretty damn impressed, that's for sure.

I vote no because it's a vmax

With enough velocity, why wouldn't it?

Well thev max is designed to not penetrate, so it is hard to say.

I'd bet it will either be a splat with very shallow penetration, or it will penetrate.

v-max?
probably not.

a 55 grain FMJ?
probably.

I seem to recall a well-known old school  gunwriter saying a .22-250 penetrated steel better than a jacketed .30-06.

I would bet $5 it would go through a 1/2" AR500 target at that range like butter.

I don't think that AR500 armor has the same material properties as AR500 targets, at least not the III+ plate which is supposed to be a hardened core compared to their Level III stuff.

In fact I don't think all AR500 targets are created equal for that matter.

A little off topic but I kinda want a set of the level IV plates they came out with.

Regardless, I'd still expect the 22-250 to zip through even if you scaled up the III+ plate so that it was 1/2" thick.  At some point, unless you're shooting at ceramics, speed>all.

Yep..its going to explode when it hits steel...

Fwiw years ago a buddy of mine that did armored up executive vehicles told me that he'd see a hopped up 240 weatherby zip through the plating they used in their suv's like it wasn't there. This was stuff rated to stop 30-06 black tip.

Maybe the vmax bullet won't go thru but I'd bet a fmj would easily

V-Max isn't meant for penetration. With that said, that close and that fast so I'm not sure.

That is what I am leaning towards. the polymer plug will expand on impact and the bullet will just splash.

It goes through regular steel better than 7.62x54 with the steel tip (not AP but the normal steel they put in most of their bullets).

From what I've seen not as good as a 30-06 SP, however not seen the VMax in action think the was HP 22-250

Are there commercial loads of 55gr fmj's in 22-250?  I only ever see polymer tip and soft points.

Why would the thin jacket on a 55gr. FMJ make any difference on steel? It is all going to turn to goo on the way through.
