Verizon is getting out of the email business.  I can keep my Verizon.net email if I migrate it to AOL.

Is AOL going to take over as my homepage? Can I just install their mail program?

Is AOL bad for my computer?

You can likely just access the migrated email address via their web based internet portal like you would with gmail, yahoo, msn, outlook or similar web based email clients.  You should not have to install their machine killing captive advertising bloatware.

But to specifically answer the last portion of your question.  Do not install that crap. Just use their web based portal to your mail presumably at AOL.com unless they told you differently and click on the email tab.

Thanks. I'm trying to avoid the bloat ware. I will check out the web based email.

I have used AOL for my primary email account since the 90s. I have never used them as a home page, though. You can set your home page to any site you want. I just have Bing as mine.

Well that was easy.  Set up their web based email account.

I've used AOL since 98 with zero issues!

Arf is my homepage ;)
