I'm not really much of a gamer but I had to check out the U.S. ARMY'S new free game download,ArmyOps. Wow. It is really nicely put together. Takes some getting used to but worth checking out if you like this kind of stuff. Basic training is simple then you move on to an online team in combat trianing situations. That is as far as I've been. Have fun!

There was a big following here when it first came out.

I played with some frequency since then, but recently I've found other things to do with my time....(AA:O did get 'old' after awhile, it's the same old maps, people play them so much that it's become a grenade war IMO.)

I play it fairly often, what can I say im a saw (squad automatic weapon) fanatic in qcb maps (weapons_cache). There are ways to get over the nade fests, but I agree it does need some work before it's finished.

For some reason, I still can't get through the basic training. Everytime I climb the net and climb down the other side, no matter what I do, it fails me and says I can't jump off. Meanwhile, i don't jump. I'm wondering whether its a glitch or whatnot, but I tossed the game after 30 mins of trying to get through that inane course.

Wish I had a better video card so I could try it. Mine won't handle it. Guess I'll stick to DOD. Anyone else play DOD? I need some teammates.[sniper]

I play it...

It has some bugs (like unbearable lag for the first 1-2min of each game, after which it stabilizes), and one major realisim issue: Although both sides are playing as 'Army', you see the other side with Russian weapons...

So they can't be modeling the weapon charactaristics very well, if a mosin nagant and a M-24 shoot the same, AK & M16, RPK vs SAW, and so on...

Try uninstalling it and deleting the armyops folder in program files and then down load the new 1.3.0 version from Nvidia. I could down load four files at a time. 2 from each mirror site. It goes pretty fast on broadband.

CHIPS, would you mind posting the links that you used? I actually did try doing what you said, but it didn't work. Maybe it was the combination of satellites that I used for the download. Please post the links, it'd be a great help to me!

Really? What is the trick to activating a link? Also how do I reply to a specific post? Where it shows what the poster said. Is that a forward?

If you want to quote someone, click on the "quote" button above their post. If you want to activate a link, type the link between [ur l][/ur l] without the spaces between the "r" and "l".

I recently checked this out (us old guys like computer games, too you know) and got through basic training. Could never qualify as expert on the range though, even though I've done it in real life! Always "sharpshooter." Also, went to jail once for blasting the DI. The "US Weapons" range was interesting.

Anyways, I got to the MOUT training where you go online and ran through that a few times. Some were fun, but the tunnel one was lousy. Everyone there knew exactly what they were doing and where to run to, except me, and I just kept getting wasted. I did manage to take out a few "bad" guys though. I don't like how you can't tell who is on your team and who isn't. I know that's just like real life, but on a computer, you have to make a few compromises for the sake of making the game fun and playable. I recently tried out "Blackhawk Down" and that was much better.

I guess federally funded computer games have the same problems inherent in other federally funded projects.

Reason behind that is because they never want the US Army to be the enemy. Makes sense, since it is a recruiting tool.

And trickshot... the simple way to tell who is on your team from a distance is that teammates are wearing a rucksack, while enemies are not. When I first started playing back in July I blew away alot of friendlies because I couldn't tell whos who.. [:I]

I didn't really get into it. You should try the Blackhawk Down online game. That's a lot of fun. As soon as it comes down in price I'll buy the full version.

Trickshot, that's the way it is for a lot of the boards in the beginning, they are more of just a training tool. Once you get a little further you start getting into some very interesting and fun maps, like Insurgent Camp, Weapons Cache, Mountain Pass, Pipeline, Bridge... those are way better maps. That tunnel map did suck big time. But, all you have to do is basically show up for around 5 matches in a row, and you are automatically qulaified to go on to the next level.

At first I just thought the game was so so. But after getting qualified for everything, the game has really come alive for me, plus it's free :-)

The BHD game is alright. Its good if you just want a mindless shoot at whatever moves experience. Hopefully they will release a more complete demo sometime.

I play the army game if I'm feeling tactical, and the BHD game if I just need a quick action fix.

I've always been a Delta Force series player, but I find this AmericasArmy to be the best I've ever played. Reason being, if are going to succeed, you have to work as a team, atleast more so than in Delta Force. Plus, the lack of respawning as soon as you die, makes your actions count more.

GLOBAL OPS is better, realer and funner.

Americas army gameplay is slow and unrealistic
