I'm hoping to find a answer on here cause i've asked at gun shops and no one seems to know the answer.  I've got a Romanian made ak and i can't stand the muzzle break on the barrel. I don't know if its a screw on or not but i know it doesn't have a pin.  All the gun shops tell me to bring it in but they just wanna make some money off the deal ya know.  So if anyone knows how to tell other than just taking a pair of channel locks to it PLEASE help me out.
Thanks

It doesnt have a pin on the top coming out of the FSB?

Crank it of then! But then you will have bare threads.

+1

Im willing to bet its threaded.   If you want to change the brake, check out a '74 version.

Uh, its either pinned on permanently or its shifted into place by turning it or a slight possibilty its put in with set screws. How its put on there should be obvious from just looking at it. You should post this in AK forum. plus a pic would help.

The only Romanian AKs i know of that have a fixed muzzle brake are the Post ban ones but thats just a thread protector and its WELDED on in 4 spots. Other than that if you have a slant brake on it, its most likely not pinned or welded unless someone personally did it because i never seen a factor slant brake pinned or welded. Just try twisting it off with a wrench

It's probably left hand threads, as well.
