Here's something I've been curious about...

Wanting to conserve a little bit of energy, I wanted to see about getting an AC outlet timer to run a power strip off of, and have my computer desk peripherals connected to it, so they are powered off during the night.  Also for a few other things around the house.

Problem is, the only ones I can find are cheap and only have two prong sockets.

Does anyone know of any good AC outlet timers with three pronged sockets??

You understand that that will not gracefully shut down the computer, but yank it's power.  Bad vibes...

By the way, turn your monitor off, and call it a day.   Electronics don't burn much power, and almost none if in powersave mode.

If it's just the peripherals like modem or printer, then it should be fine.

I googled and found:

I said peripherals, not the computer itself. I am quite aware of the consequences of cutting power to a computer.   ;)

And as for them not burning much power, I read (and don't know how true it is) that your cell phone charger plugged in all year, charging your phone normally eats enough power when it does nothing to run a refridgerator for a month.   You could definitely trim some fat by eliminating parasitic devices like that when they are not in use.

You'll be lucky if you save enough money to pay for the timer .

They make three prong timers. I've got a couple.

Time to hit the hardware store.
