Holy cow my figs are sweatin'.

Got home today and the AC is on the fritz. I have a heat pump outside and a central AHU in the attic. Thing is not running at all. Checked the breaker at the service panel and it is OK. Went outside and checked the fuses for continuity at the disconnect and my cont. tester beeped (had continuity through the two fuses). When I pulled them out nothing changed (of course) and when I put them back in the pump started and quickly shut down again. Can repeat this.

Edited to add: What is that radio unit on the side of it. It normally has a flashing red light. Many heat pumps in the neighborhood have one. What does it do. It is called a radio controlled load management device.........(if I was not on medication I would put my tinfoil hat back on......who is remotely controlling the temperature of my figs?)

Any ideas.....service call or DIY?

Anything I can look at to tell me the problem?

Thanks in advance

Take a sledge to the radio control thing shutting off your unit.

The Power Company is killing power at your unit.

That is what the radio thing is there for.

Could be a bad thermostat or a bad defrost board. On a lot of units if you remove power and then turn it back on the unit will start for 1 sec, and then shut off.  If you know how to use a multimeter you can check to see if you thermostat is calling for cooling. First turn the unit tocooling and turn down to the coldest temp. Then pull the panel off at the outside unit where the conduit goes in. Follow the thermostat wire to the defrost board. Look for the red and yellow wires. Turn your multimeter on to volts AC. Use one of the leads on the multimeter and touch the red wire at the board and with the other touch the yellow. If the you get around 24 volts your thermostat is not calling for cooling and that is your problem. If you read around 1 volt or so that means your therm is calling for cooling, and you more than likely have a bad board or possibly have a low pressure switch is open. Only do this if you are somewhat comfortable with electricity because the power must be on! New thermostat will run you about 30-600 bucks depending on what all you want it to do.
