So we all know ACORN is the tool of Satan. We all know Acorn receives federal funds. We all know something should be done to cut off that federal funding. We all know we, I mean each one of us, helped finance the election of Obama to POTUS with some of the taxes we paid. We know they are blessed by the present administration in Washington and therefore are destined to recieve additional funding. We all know that the influence of Acorn will only become more and more widespread by the next election in 2012. We know we would like Acorn to be emasculated, or depussyfied. Whichever applies.  (Hope that a mod or staffer doesnt take offense to this)
So I wanna know what can we do about eliminating the federal funding it recieves. Legally. Non violently. Etc. Maybe actually make the organization a non entity on the political scene. Any of you gurus out there got some ideas? |
Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do about where you tax money goes once it's in the budget. You can refuse to pay your taxes, but that usually doesn't end well for people. 
Alternatively, you can do what some anti-war hippies do - I actually know one of these people. Every year, she calculates what part of the federal budget is accounted for by DoD spending, and she deducts that percentage from her taxes (i.e. refuses to pay it). When she sends in her tax forms, she includes a polite letter to the IRS, telling them why she is refusing to pay the full amount. Every year, they then garnish her wages and take the amount she owes directly from her employer. It doesn't change anything, and her taxes still end up going where everyone elses' taxes go, but at least she feels good about not voluntarily paying it. Personally, I think it's an empty gesture. The only long-term way to change it is to NOT elect douchebags like Obama, and the Democratic majorities in both Houses - but that's not really helpful right now  .
Hopefully the idiots will screw things up so badly that it will be a long time before the Dems control the government again (and hopefully will not do irreversible damage while they are doing so). Fingers crossed. |

I never understood Acorn's raison d'être....they are an NGO, yet it seems they get a sizable part of their budget from the government. They also advocate certain policy positions and endorse politicians, presumably the ones that promise to give them cash. Can anyone say "conflict of interest"? They seem like an amalgamation of a union organizing group, lobby group, professional protest group, dem voter drive org, and a gov't contractor.
Also, I never understood why the gov't feels it's important to register voters. I understand that many men and women died for us to have the right, but why push some dumbass into a voting booth who doesn't know the Constitution from constipation. Why have these brainless fools cancel out our well informed votes? Civic participation is only a duty if you've done the requisite research on the issues. |

I heard that they were being investigated for voter fraud, but nothing ever seems to come of it. I guess what I dont understand is why they qualify to receive federal funding via taxpayer money.
How did this organization get spawned? Grant money? Pork? Entitlement? Was it funded with money earmarked for other purposes? Im ignorant about Acorn. Its just one more thing on the load we have to bear. The feeling of impotence. Getting continually screwed with our own money. |

Souter announcing retirement now...<sigh> I'm not thinking it's going to get better in the near future. If Obama get's an activist judge or two on the Scotus, we will be hosed for many years to come. That is always my biggest worry during elections. I can tolerate 4 years of Carter, or 8 of Clinton, as long as the balance in the Supreme court isn't compromised. Fucking Souter.
