Poor kid, looks like tv was set on cheap ass walmart storage shelf.  Title seems slightly misleading, was he crushed or I'm guessing the tv fell and busted his head

Yes, tragic.   Anyone with a modicum of understanding of physics knows putting a heavy TV on top of a lightweight, wobbly, plastic shelf from WalMart is asking for trouble.

The shelf is obviously bent in the pics. Tragic but the parent(s) should have known better.

Shitty it happened. Parental fail.  Those old tube tvs were heavy.  I still have a 27" sony that i keep for no reason and it's almost 100lbs.

Stupidity killed that poor kid. Parents to dumb to understand common sense + physics.

When my sister was about 4 and I was 7, we were in my parents room watching TV on a 20"ish in Sony CRT. Big fucker. I was shooting those suction cup darts at the TV and making my sister fetch them. She ended up pulling the tv off the stand which was about 20" tall and it broke her foot.

My wife works in a major children's hospital. She's sees dozens a year with a huge uptick at Super Bowl season. She says you can set your watch by it.

Article said "old tube style".  My guess is that it was one of those 300 pound, 36-inch Sony WEGA bastards.

We bought one about 12 years ago and I still regret it.  The damage moving that thing around did to my body still hurts on occasion.

We tried to give it away and it wasn't until the 4th potential new owner tried to move it that they didn't say "Fuck that!  I don't want this heavy bitch."

I can see one falling on top of an adult and killing them, much less a child.
