It act like it is not getting enough fuel and blows the fuel pump fuse as soon as you put a new one in....My first guess...bad pump. What do you all think?
It will start when a new fuse is put in but the fuse blows after about 2-3 sec. and the truck idols rough till it quits after about 10 sec... Come on ARFCOM help me out here....

change the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed in the last 15k. but my money is on a bad fuel pump, the best price for a replacement is at rock auto.com.
there is a rare chance that someone modded the fuel system and shimmed the return regulator spring in the fuel bowl housing but that would be really rare |

You have a wire cracked and grounding, or the Fuel pump relay is bad... The relay is Internal to the GEM Module so It would have to be swapped..
Could possiby be the pump itself as well I guess... Odd itworks while it has power though. That would tell me it's good. |

oh yeah the fuel pump is on the drivers frame rail. you need the plastic tool that removes the fuel line fittings, that costs about 6 bucks and remove the whole fuel pump by un bolting the three bolts that stick out through the frame rail and then unplugging the quick connect located about 15" away. the new pump sits in the fuel pump mount a little loose but it will be ok and its easier to mount the pump in the housing then bolting the whole thing back in place
if you need more help email me at [email protected] |
| i'm gettin' ready to call it a night. check out the connectors on the valve cover gaskets. had some issues with the connectors overheating and shorting between the glow plug leads and the injector leads which are 120v on the 7.3. hadn't run across one with your specific problem. look for discolored connector......or worse. just guessing. |

That fuse by chance doesn't also run the Fuel heater does it? If so I've seen many have the wiring in the bottom of the filter housing get crushed due to bad filters leaving the O-ring in the bottom and the new filter pushes on it crusing the wire over time. Never use Wix/Napa filters on a Power Stroke. All the ones I've seen won't run with this fuse blown as I think it runs the injector Driver module or something else required.
Also what year Power Stroke?, the old style (97 on down) had a mechanical pump, the Super Duty's have an electric. Either way you can pull the filter and see if the there is fuel in the housing after it dies. The HEUI system makes high pressure at the injectors, so odds are if theat bowl is full of fuel, you've got another issue. |
