| I am looking at their tactical vest. It looks like a pretty good deal at 50$. Anyone had any experience with their products? |
That style of pants is very popular but I do not buy things just to look cool (but I still look pretty bad ass if I may say so myself). |
| I've had pretty good luck with 5.11 stuff, both stateside and in the sandbox. I've got two of the vests, but something to consider is that it's made of fairly heavy duty cotton material. It's not the coolest item of clothing when the temperatures get up there and you're on the move. |

The vests hold up pretty well. I have one I've worn almost daily for about a year and it's starting to show the mileage. It's getting a little frayed around the collar and the front pockets. Where did you find them for $50.00? Most places want more than that for them. |
|
I have the pants, and wear them all the time. I love them, and they have a shit ton of pocket space. That said, I think of the vest a little less, and if you CCW, that thing literally screams "Guy with a gun, right here! Hey, I have a gun! Look at me, I'm packing!" I see no real need for one. |
| They last me about 2 years. When they start getting older, they are more comfortable, but start getting holes in them. Most folks do not know, but if you turn the pants inside out, you can put knee pads in or hide stuff in the knee area. There is a small hidden pocket on the inside. |

My agency issues the pants to me. I wear them to work everyday. They are very durable, and the design is well thought out. They are however very thick and hot, when your out on the concrete range during the warmer months (which is about 11 months out of the year down here in south central Texas. I'm quite confident that their vests are at least as durable as their pants, but I wouldn't expect it to be a very comfortable garment for warmer climates. |
well then they shouldnt be that bad because I work on a farm during the summer in south alabama and carhartts are the only pants I wear. |
|
I've got a pair of the pants, got off e-bay at about half msrp. Definitely worth that, not sure if worth twice what I paid for what I do in them. Definitely heavier duty wear than many trou. Workmanship seems top notch and the little details are there. The knee pad pouch, seam and reinforcement sewing, etc are very good. But if you wearing for knock-arounds other cargo type pants may be just as good for you at lower price. |

Built quality was better when they were Roayl Robbins 5.11 and only the feds were using them as "tactical" pants. I have two pair that are about 5 years old and they are still going strong. Then when they got really popular, the build quality suffered, the two pair I have that are about 2 years old are not a nice. My most recent couple. the splinter 5.11 company, no longer Royal Robbins, are typical made in cambodia shit. The vest BTW is heavy, and not very durable. |
Another vote here for 5.11, the benchmark for "tactical-casual" wear. ![]() As others have said, the vest is a bit heavy for hot weather, but that's the trade-off for a material that doesn't "print". As far as tipping off the fact that you might be carrying, I think most folks will think "hunting/fishing/photography/geek" before they think "gun". |
Hey. Sometimes ya gotta carry what ya gotta carry. |
+1 to both comments. Want everybody too look at you funny and while you're at it advertise to anybody who has a clue that you CCW? Get one of those vests. |
