I remember a few years ago I bought some black tip 30-06 ammo from sportsmans guide. I was wondering if the ol' black tips are still out there and where someone could find such an item?

I've got some still linked up sitting in the basement. I believe you can get it from a demil company, Maine Cartridge Company is one that pulls, demills, and reloads it. Shoots OK, not great. Don't know if mine was demilled as it was still all linked up in the belt.

I'd love to try some of this stuff through my M1. I'll bet this would make quite a hole in steel plate...the kind that is usually painted WHITE with black writing on it.

I guess that is the vagaries of surplus ammo - you never know what you will get. Mine isn't AP. So I guess the answer regarding CMP ammo is that you may or may not get black-tipped AP. There is no guarantee either way. |
